Minnesota United FC News Release

BLAINE, Minn. (July 26, 2012) - With the new school year approaching, Minnesota Stars FC wants to help children in Minnesota go back to class with the supplies they'll need to be successful. To that end, the club has again partnered with The Caring Tree to collect supplies and monetary donations.

The Caring Tree will also be on-site at both Stars FC home games at NSC Stadium in August, against the North American Soccer League leading San Antonio Scorpions on the 11th and against FC Edmonton on the 25th. Minnesota soccer fans can help The Caring Tree - and get a $2 ticket discount at the NSC Stadium box office - by bringing school supplies to donate to the organization. Stars FC will also help the Caring Tree raise money through a variety of activities before and during both matches. The Stars will set up a speed kick booth at the tailgate and inside the stadium during the game. The team will also do a Chuck for Charity contest with all proceeds benefitting The Caring Tree. Fans will be able to purchase a tennis ball to throw at a target on the field for a chance to win Stars FC prizes.

The Caring Tree has collected and distributed supplies to nearly 200,000 children since its establishment in 1993. Through partnerships with vendors and wholesalers, the organization can send a child back to school with a backpack and 30 essential supplies for $20, allowing it to maximize financial contributions.

"It's wonderful to work with The Caring Tree for a third year in a row, and with our rising fanbase and growing numbers coming to games, we're optimistic that we can make our largest contribution yet to the organization's efforts to help Minnesota's children be successful in the classroom," Stars FC CEO Djorn Buchholz said.

Melissa Philibert, Executive Director of The Caring Tree added: "We appreciate the generosity and partnership with the Minnesota Stars FC and fans. Our demand has increased nearly 20 percent this year alone, so any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will be put to great use."
