ATD Instructors

Owner and instructor Lori Burton has over thirty-five years of teaching experience, and has been specializing in Argentine Tango for the last twenty years. She was a soloist with the Metropolitan Ballet Society and has earned numerous top teacher awards in competitive ballroom, Latin, and rhythm styles. Lori is also a former two-time state body building champion.

Lori's tango dancing has been featured on ESPN and local television, including a tango exhibition on PBS. Lori and the ATD studio have appeared in various other news sources including the Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Macomb Daily, and Crane's Business News.

Lori has studied Argentine tango extensively in Argentina with many of the greatest Argentine masters. Among her teachers are Carlos Gavito, Mingo Pugliese, Osvaldo Zotto, Fabian Salas, Graciela Gonzalez, Gustavo Naveira, Miguel Zotto, Juan Carlos Copes, Aurora & Jorge Firpo, Facundo & Kely Posadas, Pablo Veron, Sergio Cortazzo & Gachi Fernandez, the Dinzels, and others. Lori's ties to the Argentine tango community have made it possible for her to host many guest visits from top instructors, right here at her Michigan studio.

Daniel y Amanda have been exposed to Tango since they were young as both of them come from dancing families. They have come together to form a dynamic dream team. Together they are the essence of Tango...Romance, Connection, and Passion. They placed in the Finals of the United States Championships after only dancing together for a few months and went on to compete in the World Cup in Argentina. This is the couple to watch for the future of Tango in the USA.

Photo of Yelena Yelena has a background as a music instructor and Russian language instructor. She has over fifteen years of teaching experience and has studied music since the age of nine.

Yelena fell in love with Latin music for the first time when she walked into a salsa club over 10 years ago. She hasn't stopped dancing since. She continues to take classes and workshops with various instructors and attends salsa congresses all over the U.S. and internationally.

Yelena currently teaches the Ladies Latin Styling class and the Latin Club Style class at Argentine Tango Detroit. Her courses include salsa, bachata, merengue, and cha cha. All ages and levels are welcome. Her classes are filled with fun, energy, and the firm belief that dancing is not only about technique. It is also about a passion for music.

Flower Image Suzy has been teaching Ballroom and Latin style dances since 1988. She is certified in both the American and International style dances. Currently, Suzy is an Independent Contractor working with local dance studios, and Co-host of the Royal Ballroom Dance Cruise tours. Suzy has won many top teacher awards throughout the U.S.A. and Canada. In the past, Suzy has hosted her own TV show called Spotlight Dancing, taught for many years on cruise ships, been Dance Director, coach and GM for some of the largest studios in Michigan. Suzy also has taught Stage and Theatre movement at WSU in Detroit, MI, and has traveled all over the world entertaining.

Flower Image Terry began his training at the Fred Astair Dance Studio in Saginaw, MI in 1972. From there he continued on a lifelong career in dance instruction. Terry works with both singles and couples. At ATD he specializes in latin and ballroom dance.
