'Rugged Maniac' Has Challenges Meant To Test The Will
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Cold, wet weather makes most people want to stay home. Still, a whole bunch of people showed up to compete in an adventure race at the Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood.
The participants in the Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Race managed their way through a whole lot of mud. It wasn't a race course -- it was three miles of muddy torture at the "Rugged Maniac."
About 5,000 people participated.
"We're from Junction. It's been 90 degrees all week. We show up here and it's in the 40s," one participant said.
Runners met challenges meant to test the will and discourage.
There were hills that didn't grip, barriers that didn't budge, and barbed wire.
"It's very muddy and slick. People were sliding into each other," another participant said.

Coloradans like to brag about 300 days of sunshine. It was a day they wish was one of them.
West Metro Fire says they treated some bumps and bruises and a handful of people for some extreme cold. They say next year they might be stationed through the entire event if the conditions are similar.
