Porkopolis becomes 3rd Chandler BBQ spot to open in April

By Jess Harter Monday, April 30, 2012

Porkopolis opened its doors this afternoon on the southeast corner of Arizona Avenue and the 202, becoming the third BBQ restaurant to open in Chandler in three weeks.

Can’t Stop Smokin’ Bar-B-Q opened earlier today, three days earlier than scheduled. Rudy’s Country Store & Bar-B-Q opened April 9.

Unlike Can’t Stop Smokin’ and Rudy’s – both of which have large buildings and the standard rural-themed decor – Porkopolis is a sleek, modern strip-mall space with floor-to-ceiling windows, a polished granite bar, and a chef’s counter.

Porkopolis Chandler AZBesides four smoked meats – brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and baby back ribs – Porkopolis also serves burgers, steaks, and seafood.

Sandwiches (brisket pictured) are $9-$10, including side. Entrees start at $14 and top out at $24 for a full rack of good-sized baby backs.

The eight appetizers include Red-Neck Tacos (pulled pork on corn cakes with jalapeno slaw, $10) and Burnt Ends (described as “barbecue candy,” $11)

Paletas – Mexican popsicles ($3) – from Paletas Betty just up the street are one of four desserts.

The bar offers just four beers on tap – Bud Light ($4), Stella Artois, Firestone Walker Union Jack and Shock Top (all $5) – and eight others by the bottle ($4-$6).

The bar also pours apple pie-flavored Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine whiskey from Mason jars (pictured).

Happy hour is 3:30 to 6:30, when draft beers are $2.50.
