Orrin grew up in Philadelphia where he had the chance to meet artists like the great Shirley Scott and Charles Pettaway.

He attended Mason Gross School of The Arts at Rutgers University where he worked with Kenny Barron and Joanne Brackeen, among others. His career began in earnest in 1996 with an invitation from Bobby Watson to join a European tour with Bobbie Watson & Horizon. His recording career started in 1994 with six CDs for the Criss Cross label, and more recently for Palmetto, his own label, Imani Records, and Posi-Tone. He has produced records for J. D. Allen, Nasheet Waits, Duane Eubanks and many others. His own latest release Freedom (2011) is on Posi-Tone. Orrin has performed and recorded with Wallace Roney, Mos Def, Pharoah Sanders, Antonio Hart, Carmen Lundy, Ralph Peterson, The Mingus Big Band, and many more.

Orrin’s Trio features Vicente Archer on bass and Bill Stewart on drums.
