Harmony Stained Glass

Happy Glasser

This is how I feel when I go to Harmony Stained Glass.

(and I work here)

Hi Everyone -

This week I am off to Austin for a glass conference.  In addition to teaching some Harmony techniques, I'll be taking several classes to bring back the latest fun ideas to use and teach at Harmony.

We'll be open regular hours.  In addition to the regular crew, Lloyd will be helping to hold down the fort.  You know we always have the coffee on and the good times roll, even while I'm away!

I'll be back on June 29th.  I'll have lots of cool stuff to share.   I hope to see you then.

Joyce

PS:  There's a lot of great stuff in this newsletter.  Please read all the way to the bottom.

There is still room in our Sunday, June 30th class - Hanging Gardens.  The tuition is $32 plus supplies and includes FREE AIR CONDITIONING!!!

In this fun one-day workshop you'll learn to create fabulous flowers that never wilt.  You'll learn the basics of using lead came to finish the edges of the glass.

These little masterpieces go together easily because we wrap them in lead and only solder the joints. We also use wire to show detail so that you don't have to cut any little pieces.

The "Le Fleur" hanger at the top is a one-of-a-kind.  We have others that are similar or you can use a simpler way to hang your new garden.

It's only 34 pieces and they're easy to cut but you'll want to come by the store to get your pattern and glass so that you can bring them to class already cut out.

From the mind of Angela Chandler, this wonderful project can be quick and easy to build or it can be complex, depending on your time and style.

We will start with a picture frame that can be any style and color you like.  We will add a beveled mirror on a raised glass platform, then we will mosaic around it with random strips of glass, rods and millefiori for additional texture and design.  This is a great project for Van Gogh glass and SilverCoats mirrored glass.  The colors can be matched to any decor.

This project is perfect to hang beside your entry for that last minute lipstick and hair check as you leave.  It has an elegant, one-of-a-kind look that would make a wonderful housewarming, wedding or anniversary gift.

You must bring a picture frame to class with you.  We suggest a 10 x 13 glass surface, or just slightly larger to do in class.  It needs to have glass.  You can buy one with glass or bring one without glass and we'll cut glass to fit.  This project could be repeated at home with any size mirror, even a large mirror designed to hang over a vanity, in an entry or beside the dining room table.

When you look at these stylish Deep Drop-Ring Vessels, you can't help but touch them.  Even though they are kiln-formed, there are no marks from the mold or shelf.  It's as if they were mouth-blown rather than kiln-formed.

In this class, you'll create two vessels in different styles.  On the first day of class, you'll set up your glass for the first firing.  Then the participants will arrange a follow-up class for the cold-working.

New skills:  We'll use the wet tile saw, the Taurus Ring Saw and the flat-lap grinder to polish the top edge to a high-gloss shine.
