Biography

As a Junior (2012): Voted one of four team captains at the end of the 2012 spring practices (also Kevin Dorsey, Demetrius Hartsfield and Joe Vellano) … entered fall practices as the starting quarterback … tore his ACL in a non-contact drill during preseason practices and missed the season … petitioned the NCAA and will have two years of eligibility remaining (2013 & 2014).

As a Sophomore (2011): Played in 10 games with starts in five … led the team with five rushing touchdowns … owns three of the top eight rushing performances by a QB in school history (162 vs. Clemson; 124 vs. Georgia Tech; 110 vs. Wake Forest) … only Terp signal-caller with more than one 100-yard rushing game (has three) … ranked second on the team in rushing yards (574), a mark which ranks first on the Maryland single-season QB rushing list and 15th on the all-time ACC chart … his 7.27 yards per carry was the third-highest average on the single-season school list (min. 75 attempts) … also tops among all FBS quarterbacks on the year … saw his first action against Temple (9/24), entering in the fourth quarter and leading Maryland on a touchdown drive by going 4 of 4 through the air for 42 yards including an 18-yard TD pass to Devonte Campbell … also rushed twice for 29 yards on the drive … played briefly against Towson (10/1), going 2 of 3 for 14 yards … saw extended time for the first time in his career against Georgia Tech (10/8), entering in the second quarter and playing the rest of the game … finished with 124 yards rushing, including a 77-yard TD, while completing 4 of 17 passes for 36 yards and an interception … led the Terps on a pair of TD drives … the single-game rushing total ranks sixth in school history among quarterbacks … ran for 162 yards, the most ever by a Terp QB (ninth on the ACC single-game chart), and had a 21-yard touchdown run against Clemson (10/15) …  also threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns on 17 of 35 passing … the 162 rushing yards was the 10th most by a QB in the FBS this season … led Maryland on six scoring drives (five touchdowns) en route to a season-high 45 points … started against FSU (10/22) but was replaced early in the third quarter after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from a Seminole defender … finished 11 of 19 for 92 yards passing and zero net yards rushing against FSU … started against BC (10/29) and went 2 of 6 for 14 yards while also rushing for 17 yards before being replaced in the second quarter … came off the bench against Virginia (11/5) and went 4 of 7 for 28 yards, one TD and one interception, and also rushed for 24 yards … replaced an injured Danny O’Brien in the third quarter of the Notre Dame game (11/12) and led Maryland on two scoring drives … went 6 of 10 for 87 yards and rushed three times for 31 yards, including a 24-yard TD run, against the Irish … recorded his third 100-yard rushing game of the year with 110 against Wake Forest (11/19) … set career highs in pass completions (20), attempts (42) and yards (186) against the Demon Deacons … matched a season-high by hitting nine receivers in the Wake game, and also had a TD pass … went 12 of 23 for 166 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions against NC State (11/26) … had a career-long 59-yard completion to Kevin Dorsey and rushed for 77 yards and a career-high two TDs against the Wolfpack.

As a Redshirt Freshman (2010): Played in one game as a reserve signal-caller … missed the final 11 games due to a shoulder injury … was third on the depth chart before the injury … on the field for four plays vs. Morgan State (9/11), going 0-for-1 and rushing once for 12 yards … suffered a season-ending fracture in his right shoulder vs. the Bears.

As a Freshman (2009): Redshirted … served as the No. 3 or 4 quarterback during the season … earned offensive scout team player honors twice, leading up to the James Madison (9/12) and NC State (11/7) games.

At Seneca Valley High School: One of the top quarterback prospects in the nation … ranked No. 17 nationally among dual-threat quarterbacks by Rivals.com … also a member of the Rivals.com 2008 Pennsylvania Postseason Top 40 … ranked No. 35 nationally among QBs by Scouts, Inc. and No. 67 by Scout.com … a three-year letterwinner and two-time team captain … posted school records of 3,845 career passing yards and 26 TDs … threw for 2,154 yards (single-season school record) with 14 TDs, while rushing for 680 yards and 12 scores in 2008 … a second-team All-Pennsylvania selection by the AP as a senior … also a two-time selection for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab 22 … a Pittsburgh Tribune Review Fantastic 25 choice as a senior … a two-time unanimous All-Northern Six Conference selection … threw for 1,567 yards and 11 TDs as a junior … also a three-year letterwinner in basketball … first-team All-Butler County and first-team all-section as a junior … rushed for 586 yards and five more scores in 2007 … an honorable mention all-conference choice as a sophomore … also recruited by Penn State, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Notre Dame … coached by Ron Butschle.
