“Roxanne” helmer Fred Schepisi’s romantic drama “Words and Pictures” will world preem as a Gala at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, it was announced Tuesday morning, along with a sizeable chunk of the feature slate, more than 90 pics, screening across various programs.
“Words” stars Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche as rival teachers at an elite New England prep school.
The North American preems of Guillaume Canet‘s “Blood Ties” and Marion Vernoux‘s “Bright Days Ahead” will also unspool on the Gala screen.
Special Presentations adds 19, including the world preems of multi-hypehnate John Turturro’s comedy “Fading Gigolo,” co-starring Woody Allen; Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland’s “The Last of Robin Hood,” starring Kevin Kline as Errol Flynn; Megan Griffiths‘ “Lucky Them,” about a rock journo assigned to track down her ex and starring Toni Collette; “Charlie Stratton‘s 19th-century Paris-set drama “Therese,” starring Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Felton; and Arie Posin‘s “The Face of Love” (IFC); and the North American preems of Alex Gibney’s “The Armstrong Lie” and James Franco’s “Child of God.”
Brit pics Kevin Macdonald‘s “How I Live Now” and Dexter Fletcher‘s “Sunshine on Leith” will also world preem in the program, as will Nils Tavernier‘s “The Finishers,” Alberto Arvelo‘s “The Liberator,” Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu’s “Love is the Perfect Crime,” and Reha Erdem’s “Singing Women.”
The festival’s globe-circling Contemporary World Cinema program adds 50, including the world preems of U.S. helmers Alexandre Rockwell’s “Little Feet” and Josh C. Waller’s “McCanick.”
International pics world-preeming in CWC include Fernando Coimbra’s “A Wolf at the Door,” Mariana Rondon’s “Bad Hair,” Nejib Belkadhi’s “Bastardo,” Alexey Uchitel’s “Break Loose,” Fernando Eimbcke’s “Club Sandwich,” Leticia Tonos Paniagua’s “Cristo Rey,” Menno Meyjes‘s “The Dinner,” Anne Weil and Philippe Kotlarski” Friends from France,” Dome Karukoski‘s “Heart of a Lion,” Lisa Langseth’s “Hotell,” Lars Daniel Krutzkoff Jacobsen’s “The Immoral,” Noh Young-Seok’s “Intruders,” Donovan Marsh‘s “iNumber Number,” Mohamad Malas’ “Ladder to Damascus,” Ragnar Bragason’s “Metalhead,” Guillaume Giovanetti and Cagla Zencirci’s “Ningen,” Gotz Spielmann’s “October November,” Raisa Bonnet’s “Old Moon,” Rashid Masharawi’s “Palestine Stereo,” Robert I. For budding cinephiles, TIFF Kids adds five, including the world preems of Ask Hasselbalch’s “Antboy,” Shilpa Ranade’s “The World of Goopi and Bagha,” and Oskar Santos’ “Zip and Zap and the Marble Gang.”
And Wavelengths, the fest’s mind-expanding strand of artist-driven and experimental cinema, adds 46 titles of varying lengths, including 15 features. World preems in the program include Caroline Strubbe’s “I’m the same, I’m an other,” Raya Martin & Mark Peranson’s “La ultima pelicula,” and Ali Cherri’s “The Disquiet.”
