Community Performance Series will present “Heather Henson’s Sing Along with ‘The Muppet Movie’” on Wednesday, May 6, at 7 p.m. in the Proscenium Theater at SUNY Potsdam’s Performing Arts Center.

POTSDAM, NY (04/27/2015)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series has added a new family event to its current season. "Heather Henson's Sing Along with 'The Muppet Movie'" will take place Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. in the Proscenium Theater in SUNY Potsdam's Performing Arts Center.

This benefit performance was made possible thanks to support from Henson's IBEX Puppetry, located in Orlando, Fla. All proceeds will benefit CPS summer productions.

"The Muppet Movie" (1979) represents the feature film roots of the Muppets. It received two Academy Award nominations and is listed in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant." "The Muppet Movie" follows Kermit the Frog as he embarks on a cross-country trip to Hollywood. Along the way, he meets many other misfit Muppets. They join Kermit to overcome danger, discover their true selves and build a future of friendship together.

In this creation by Heather Henson (daughter of Jim Henson), the IBEX Puppetry team will lead an audience of cheering, singing fans to renew their rainbow connection with the friends who started it all.

The show is full of interactive surprises, like bubbles, streamers, kites, confetti pops and characters coming right out of the screen and into the audience. Children and adults alike are urged to yell out famous lines, blow bubbles and of course, sing along with the movie, to forge a new or renewed connection to the film.

"Sing-Alongs allow me to connect with the work of my father. I can work with my dad's material. I can put a new spin on it but it's still his stuff, intact. And it gives me an opportunity to watch them over and over again," said Ms. Henson.

"We are so excited to have been afforded this opportunity. It would not have been possible without the generous support of IBEX Puppetry, or the special connections that we've made during our summer seasons," said CPS Executive Director Amy Flack.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for youth, which includes participation and a goodie bag.

Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased in person at the CPS Box Office, located in SUNY Potsdam's new Performing Arts Center, or by calling (315) 267-2277. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.cpspotsdam.org. The box office will be open in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center one hour prior to performance time.
