Desire Oyster Bar Reopens with New Orleans Fanfare, Mermaid

After months of renovation, the historic oyster bar attached to the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street reopens.

Ready your oyster forks, everyone - the Desire Oyster Bar is back and determined to win New Orleans' love. A new redesign keeps the historic features like the original tin roof and black and white tile floor while incorporating new and improved architectural features that pay homage to the French Quarter traditional aesthetic.

More importantly, the food is excellent— fresh shucked oysters are a simple pleasure done well. Chargrilled oysters are a new menu item, executed beautifully by chef Corey Jacobs.

Yesterday evening, much schmoozing occurred while a brass band played and local burlesque lady Trixie Minx watched over the celebration from her perch on Desire's bar top. Wine and signature cocktails like the traditional Pimms cup and the "Texas Mule" were passed around by the smiling staff.

It's a fully legit Bourbon Street eatery with bad ass oysters, but more low key than Galatoires. Now open daily for breakfast, 6:30 to 11:00 a.m. And for lunch/dinner, 11:30 a.m. until.
