Jucy Rentals, a travel company based in Auckland, New Zealand, recently introduced customized camper vans for rent in the United States that it said are smaller and more compact than many larger recreational vehicles, but offer essentially the same equipment and amenities.

Jucy’s United States fleet features retrofitted Chrysler Town & Country or Dodge Caravan minivans that come fully outfitted with: a dual gas cooker, compressor refrigerator, cold water and waste water tanks, tables for dining or picnics, two double beds, a CD player and a TV/DVD player. The vehicles have sinks, but no toilets.

The camper vans are currently available for rent in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

For additional fees, travelers can rent many items that RVs typically do not provide, the company said, like cooking utensils, dinnerware, bed linens (extra high thread count cotton, no less), pillows, towels, GPS systems and baby and child seats.

The minivan bases are small, so driving and parking are relatively easy, allowing travelers, for example, to combine a camping trip to Yosemite with an urban adventure in San Francisco. “

Rates are from $45 to about $95 per night, depending on the time of year, with a five-night minimum; drivers must be 21 or older. Jucy provides round-the-clock roadside assistance, and with its partners, special offers for tours, activities and hotels.
