There’s a moment not too far into The Eastern Sea’s first official LP, Plague, where the listener realizes how damn good it is. Not very many bands have the right to be this developed on a debut. There’s not a wasted moment in any of Plague‘s 12 tracks. The lyrics are continuously well above par and the songs are constructed so artfully that it’ll give some people pause. Plague is also sequenced perfectly and only further complements the Eastern Sea’s winning formula. Additionally, Plague feels almost overwhelmingly complete, as if no detail, no matter how minute, was overlooked. While the first half is stronger than the latter, it’s not by a lot and may just be due to the introductory glow of disbelief that the first half inspires. This is an incredible record from a band that’s way ahead of the bell curve. Sit up, listen and pay attention.
