Around Downtown Holiday Tour
During November and December 2014, Discover Houston Tours celebrates the holidays with its new Around Downtown Holiday Tour.

In November, watch workers in Hermann Square Park test the little white lights on oak trees and prepare for the arrival of the City's Holiday Tree.

Magically, the Monday after Thanksgiving, Santa Claus, his reindeer, and holiday decorations appear inside and outside downtown office buildings.

If you arrive at the Visitors Center 30 minutes early, you'll have time to see a 10-minute video about Houston and pick up free literature and perhaps some Texas and Houston souvenirs (hint: bring a bag) before your guide arrives at Noon. Restrooms are available.

From Noon to 12:30 p.m., you'll tour the Visitors Center and the rotunda of Houston's Art Deco City Hall.

After a view of our spectacular skyline and a photo op at the Holiday Tree, you'll board the free Greenlink Connector and take a ride around downtown ending at GreenStreet, featuring three blocks of shopping, dining, and entertainment.

After brief stops at Forever 21 and the House of Blues, continue with your guide inside the Four Seasons Hotel. Learn how the hotel is connected to 79 other buildings via the Downtown Houston Tunnel System. Walk over a skybridge and enter The Shops at Houston Center, full of tempting gifts and 28 delicious places to eat.

After a rest stop, exit Houston Center and learn about the international delights at Phoenicia's Specialty Foods and the amenities at One Park Place, a 30-story luxury apartment house.

Enter Discovery Green's 12-acre park and enjoy photo ops at "Wings of the City," an exhibition of nine bronze sculptures by famed Mexican artist Jorge MarĂn, an allee of oak trees adjoining The Grove restaurant, Jim Dine's "The House (Heart)," Doug Hollis's "Listening Vessels," and Jean Dubuffet's "Monument au Fantome."

Enjoy an optional, Dutch-treat snack and beverage at The Lake House while watching the Dancing Waters and skaters on the ICE before reboarding the Greenlink Connector and returning to the city's Holiday Tree.

Happy Holidays!
