The BSide Now Dishing Fried Chicken & Beer in Uptown

What is likely Denver's best fried chicken is now being served at The BSide, the new restaurant and bar brainchild of Justin Lloyd of Star Bar. The spot, located at 1336 E 17th Avenue next door to the District, opened to the public today.

The former pizza parlor — previous home to Serioz Pizza and Pasquini's before that — in Uptown has been spruced up into a casual joint that is understated and has a lot of personality at the same time. The selection of beer is impressive, the food cheeky, and the back patio a sure winner.

There are thirty taps lining the back wall of a wrap-around bar that greets guests at the entry. The range of beer offerings is broad and covers everything from ciders to IPAs, sours, pilsners, barrel-aged brews, and more. Highlights include TRVE's Prehistoric Dog, a salted wheat, Crooked Stave's Double Dry Hopped Vielle Saison, Fate's Watermelon Kolsch, and the Bruery's Trade Winds, a Belgian Tripel.

The food menu, created by chef Jensen Cummings and executed by chef Sharif Villa Cruz, is a bit of a nostalgic trip to the 70s with fresh ingredients and contemporary preparations. TV dinner trays allow guests to combine items like the killer (and gluten free!) fried chicken, Meatloaf Wellington, or Pork 'n Apples with two sides like sautéed greens, cheesy corn, or Pueblo green chili. The "Cocktail Party" menu brings choices like the Pickle 'n Veg plate or the Hop Chef Meatballs. Not to miss are the Green Chili Slopper and the Smashed Fried Bologna. An eclectic and thoughtful cocktail menu complements the offerings.

The BSide is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Weekend brunch is in the works.
