I first started going thanks for a Groupon deal - was a little nervous getting the groupon because I wasn't sure what to expect (like do i have to fight someone? i'm only 5"!).
Once there, I was so glad I went! I learned that you don't actually spar until you've been there for while and want to spar.
The classes are a really great workout, the teacher (usually AK) is knowledgeable, funny, and just cool. The gym provides equipment (like gloves) you can borrow. You might want to buy your own hand towel.
Each class, you do jump rope, stretching exercises, drills and then partner up to practice defense/offense combos. I try to channel my inner Nikita when kicking and punching the sand bags :D
Overall, really great place to get a good work out, learn new skills and maybe make new friends.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dung N.San Jose, CA1395485304Jul 2, 2013
I found out about this place through their Groupon deal--5 classes for $19! It was too good to pass up so I immediately told my girlfriend to get it as well. We started a few weeks ago, and found time to go at least once a week, and believe me, it's so worth it! My girlfriend thanked me over and over again for getting her into it, and I'm so glad we're both doing it together. The instructors, AK and Jake, are super awesome! They're not at all intimidating and are really helpful.
The first initial visit is really basic, but be prepared to work your butt off. I'd highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking to try something different and new from your daily routines. Oh, and ladies, do know that you'll be getting down and dirty so do not complain! It's super fun!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Rocky R.Grass Valley, CA4474826Nov 8, 2011
Exellent source of Muay Thai Training. I often attend this school for updates in tournaments and new Muay Thai material. I send in my students in to Muay Thai Lao for quality training before and up -coming fight.
Great staff and Instructors ( Kru's)Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Yvonne N.Sacramento, CA15026681718Mar 26, 2014
Definitely something you want to check out if you want to try something new! They seem to always have introductory deals so make sure you inquire about them before you decide it's too expensive for you, which was my initial problem. The people here are really nice and welcoming and the instructors (AK and Jake) are knowledgeable and personable. They will give you a proper work out and leave you sweating balls in no time! The classes are no joke but, trust me, you'll feel awesome afterwards!
I love how they make it a team effort to strive you to work harder. It not only pressures you to push yourself a little harder but also brings everyone closer together. It only took the first day for me to make friends!
The gym itself is very spacious and they provide a lot of equipment for you. I go sparingly because of my work schedule but I know there are many hardcore regulars that are here almost every day! I also see kids here all the time so make it a family affair =)Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Marsalias Y.Sacramento, CA20116Nov 6, 2011

A way of life... That is what you will be seeking when you enter Muay Thai Lao camp. Why bother with those gym like 24 fitness or any other gym. Those trainers has there eyes on the clock or constantly talking to you wasting your valuable time paying them.
If your seeking to make a change or to better yourself or even a great workout , Muay Thai Lao Kickboxing Academy has it all. This very traditional, family oriented facility is a safe sanction if your intention just to loiter or to get a better understanding of what they have to offer. The Owners are VERY friendly and try's to accomdate all needs best as possibles. This facilty caters all ages men or women , classes through out the days except Sunday. If your going to train for whatever your intention may be , TRAIN with the BEST that has been doing it for over 20+ years ( MASTER ANDY )..They even offer Submission Grappling classes trained by Gracie Black Belt " Killa B ".
If your preparing for Amateur or Pro MMA / Cage Fight , These 2 Instructors can and will get you ready. Don't hesitate and come on by and see what offers awaits you. Ask for one of the owners name Vinnie , he can answer all the details and best serve you..

Ive been attending Muay Thai Lao since September of 2010... at 28 I had never done any kind of physical/ martial art activity other than a membership at a gym. I took a leap of faith and signed up for 3 months in advance.
One word. ADDICTING. I genuinely feel that muay thai changed my lifestyle all together. I found a physical outlet, had an elevated level of energy, enthusiasm, and confidence. Ajarn Andy commands a level of training that I can genuinely say improved my agility, reflexes, and overall peak physical condition. I started with an average build of 190 and am now a lean/muscular 178 (and I still eat what I want). Experienced students were receptive, humble and always willing to work with the less experienced.
Now in my 7th month, I find myself shadow boxing everywhere I go, and can put combinations together instinctively.
bottom line, wether you want to get in serious shape, or learn how defend yourself if the time comes, you WILL get results. Just show up. Ajarn Andy and the crew will take care of the rest.

I used to attend this academy and worked with master Andy. I stopped going because of school but recently I went back to start up again and found out Andy doesn't work there anymore. He now owns his own academy on folsom blvd. Most of the previous reviews mention him for this place, so you may get a different experience with the new trainer, good or bad. I personally want to work with Master Andy, he knows what he's doing and has passion for it. I joined because I was being bullied by a larger girl, and in a matter of 3 months I was so much stronger and confident in my abilities, that the bully didn't bother me mentally or physically anymore.

ELK GROVE location review: AJ is the real deal! Great work out, small classes, personalized attention, great for basics and advanced techniques.

MTL!! I started here over at school of the tiger with AK teaching classes there and then when they closed waited for the new one to open so i can't speak for the gym on Howe but otherwise the one on grant line ( i think thats the street) is where i go and have been training with AK. When i first went there i learned the basics and then got thrown into the main class workouts and from there i've been improving any ways come check out the new one and get the best muay training you can!!!!
