I went here with a few friends, simply cause we had a Groupon to use. Since I don't care for anything tomato, and this joint doesn't offer any pizzas whith a white sauce, I decided to make my own pizza. I ordered a 10" cheese, grilled chicken, mushroom, and green pepper concoction. It was ok. Not anything "sha-bowable".
The establishment itself is in a good location - several businesses surround the joint. The tables are long standard plastic fold-up multi-purpose tables. The bartender who waited on us was a nice gentleman. We were the only people inside, but the bartender said they do good business at lunch. I'm always a fan of local establishments, but unfortunately nothing about my pizza made a lasting impression.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 7, 2011
Pizza is an essential food, elemental to good health, well-being, and happiness. Especially when served piping hot after a long day of work-related travel. Then is it is beyond elemental: it is manna from heaven.
So is Element Pizza all that? If you consider yourself a connoisseur of the pie, then consider this: crust is made in-house a number of times daily, ingredients are fresh (some housemade - like the excellent sausage with the spot-on amount of fennel - the rest local), each combination has been artfully composed , but the kitchen is ready to work with you to make each pie your own. A few minutes in the Element's 600 degree oven later and you can decide for yourself.
I went basic - Element salad (housemade bacon and Caesar) and the House Sausage pizza. The salad was plentiful and well-balanced, the warm bacon and perfectly poached egg setting off the crisp spinach and arugula. The pizza was excellent. The crust crisp, the sauce present without being in any way soupy, and each bite had a touch of all the flavors present.
The setting suggests "Italian cafe," with tile floors, patio furniture and lighting, and a mix of Dean Martin and Citizen Cope on the sound system.
Beyond elemental...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Angie K.Columbus, OH77261136May 9, 2013Updated review
Way better this time. I think my favorite pizza in Columbus. Yum! I will be back For Sure. Strawberry beer is pretty good too.
Crust is perfect mix of crunchy and chewy. Char dust is way less then last time and I am now a true fan! Thank you guys!
We sat at the bar this time and ate the pizza, staff is a true pleasure to talk to.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 27, 2013Previous reviewI liked it. i want to come back and drink a beer. Pizza is good, a little too much with the burned char dust, but it is supposed to have that... I think. My boyfriend LOVED it.
Good divey hipster vibe. Decent Pizza, will eat again. Crust is good and chewy. - George Y.Columbus, OH16316222Oct 10, 2011
This place I've been craving to try, more for their appetizers then their pizza. I was pleasantly surprised by their pizza. Appetizer wise, I really enjoyed their fried eggplant with their mayonnaise, anchovy and olive oil dip. I asked for extra dip as I dipped my pizza crust in it. I also ordered the crispy chickpeas. It was tasty, but extremely salty, and I'm a salt loving guy. I couldn't finish my basket.
Pizza wise, on the recommendation of the server, I ordered the Parma. The Parma has prosciutto, almonds, raisins and balsamic vinegar. Never really thought raisins, prosciutto, almonds and balsamic would work on a pizza, but it tasted great. If you want something unique and anti-pizza hut, papa johns, dominos, etc., try the Parma.
I know some people have commented on the atmosphere. I myself was fine with the atmosphere. The service was great. The guy manning the bar and tables was friendly and always making sure we were ok and our drinks were filled. I hope business picks up for this place. It's in a location of Cbus that needs more local restaurants.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jason K.Troy, MI12478262Sep 26, 2011
Wow. I went late (8ish) on a Monday evening and thankfully it was relatively slow because it allowed me time to sit at the bar and talk with Sam. I should note, there was still a steady stream of carry-outs and tables through my entire stay.
The menu is simple yet accessibly complex. What the hell does that mean, it means you can get funky (Meat & Potatoes pizza) to simple (Americano) to build-your-own. Although the menu states personal sizes end at 3p the kitchen had some leftover which allowed me to sample the Tuna and the Meat & Potatoes with a fried chickpeas starter. All around it was fantastic. The M&P was delicious, great flavor pops in the parmesan olive-oil base and thinly sliced potatoes and cured bacon. The Tuna I recommend if you're into it, I would ask for a higher-grade tuna but it's a tough request to avoid it drying out.
The service was awesome and the owners (Dawn and Daniel) were hustling in the kitchen. What Element lacks in ambiance it makes up for with great food at great prices and a fantastic staff.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dan S.Columbus, OH2322Aug 15, 2011First to Review
Give them a try, I'm pretty sure you'll appreciate the basic environs for their delicious pizzas at a great value.
Popped in for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was very friendly, the service was prompt, which is a must for lunch hour service. Ordered the personal size pepperoni as well a the fennel sausage pizzas to share with a coworker. The quality of the ingredients were above average and the dough was great (it's a combo of thin wood fired meets NYC doughy).
For the price of $6 a pie you can't beat it for the quality and flavor.
The ambiance needs a little TLC, maybe music too. But I can appreciate an upstart focusing on their staples - in this case they are nailing it!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Liza V.Englewood, CO19428187Aug 26, 2013
I swear I'm not that picky when it comes to pizza, but Element seemed like it would be so much better than it was. I was really disappointed.
The atmosphere: 2 stars. Boring. No music, no real decor, blah.
Service: 3 stars. Not much personality, but he got the job done.
Bar Selection: 1 star. Four taps, only two in use. Only a few bottled beers. No local selection, beer or liquor.
Food: 2 stars. Side salad- not that I expected anything grand, but it was a plate of chewy lettuce and 4 small slices of tomatoes. The boneless wings came out and seriously looked like perfectly round little dark brown turds. No joke. But they were my favorite part of the meal. Not too shabby. We each got an individual pizza- a supreme, a bbq chicken, and a regular cheese. The crust is pretty good, and they all had a good amount of cheese on them. The pizza sauce was ok, but there was way too much. The chicken on the pizza- no good. Little spongy cubes.
When all is said and done, I won't be back to Element, even with a Groupon.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jackie H.Columbus, OH14419334Mar 28, 2013
Ugh... all these Groupon/LivingSocial folks... oh shoot... I'm being one of those Yelp-yuppies. Stop it, Jackie, stop it!!
Anyway... the boy and I were on our way to Dirty Frank's for some hot-diggity-dawgggssss, When we passed Element and were like, frick yeah... u-turn and let's try this place out that we have been talking about for awhile.
As other diners have mentioned... the chairs were rather uncomfortable. Metal, and weirdly sloped. However the pizza? Yummerzzzzz. If I remember correctly we got 2 mediums and a small mac n' cheese to try. I enjoyed it! The mac and cheese was more "easy mac" than thick goodness... but whatever, pizza was straight tasty.
It was St. Paddy's day weekend (granted, early Saturday) but they seemed to have pretty good beer specials going on. And they even have a tiny little cheat sheet for us wine-o's to know the best pizza/vino pairing.
The lady who waited on us was friendly and cheerful... even to the customer's and delivery people who stopped in, too.
I enjoyed myself (and the pizza) - will probably get it to go next time though! But seriously, creative and yummy!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Brad S.Columbus, OH14325618Mar 5, 2012
Just had lunch at this relatively new pizza shop and really enjoyed it.
The decor is pretty barebones. It reminds me more of a diner in a small, now defunct midwestern town than a downtown bar, but I suppose that will change. There are nice touches, like mason jar glassware, and a chalkboard menu that show some promise, but the entire place needs a good updating. I sat at the counter, which featured comfortable stools and nicely padded ledge.
The pizza really sang. Element helpfully allows for half-pizza options, so I had a small pizza, half with house-cured bacon and potatoes, half with almonds, prosciutto, raisins and a balsamic sauce. Both were very good. I liked the thin cut potatoes on the pizza - they crisped nicely in the oven and complemented the bacon very well. The raisin/etc. pizza side was good too, with a very interesting sweet flavor set off against the salty meat.
The crust is where they really excel, though. It's the perfect thickness in the middle, with a good edge. It's simultaneously chewy and crispy, with a great flavor. This was by far my favorite part of the pizza I had, and it's one of the better crusts in town. (Although Romeo's might still edge them out...)
They appear to have a pretty well-stocked bar with lots of local or artisan spirits. Kudos to serving Watershed! I'd love to stop back for some appetizers and a drink after work some night.
Bottom line: delicious downtown pizza in a venue with tons of potential. Keep an eye on this one.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Molly S.Columbus, OH955444Jul 20, 2013
I'm kind of shocked to find I've never reviewed this place before I've been here so many times! I do like their pizza, but I am consistently disappointed with the bar - it takes way longer than it should to get someone to take your drink order and they do a really poor job of stocking the bar appropriately.
Random side note, I find their chairs really uncomfortable.
Last night we stopped in to hang out with friends, but it was so hot and humid we left without ordering - only to find it was cooler outside in the 80-90 degree weather!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
