New Dance Studio to Offer Programs for All Ages

Studio 3 Performing Arts Center will hold an informational meeting for parents Wednesday.

A new dance studio is coming to Dexter this summer. Studio 3 Performing Arts Center, located off of Dexter-Ann Arbor Road near the Country Market shopping complex, will offer classes in dance, music and theater for students of all ages beginning in August.

The brainchild of owners and lifelong dancers Rebecca Sand-Schaedig, Megan Stanly and Stephanie Heinbuch, Studio 3 promises to offer diverse classes for the experienced and the inexperienced.

“Opening a studio was a collective dream for us,” Sand-Schaedig said. “We’ve worked together for years, and we all click in terms of philosophies, ideals and friendship. We’re pretty excited to offer the Dexter area another outlet for creative arts.”

The studio will offer ballet, tap, jazz, modern dance, hip-hop, acting and music classes, competition groups, cheerleading, Zumba and other classes. The owners, who collectively boast degrees in dance and studio management, theater performance and education, will teach all classes.

Sand-Schaedig said classes will be held once a week, four times a month, and will range in price from $30 per month for 30-minute classes to $40 for 45-minute classes, $50 for 60-minute classes and $70 for 90-minute classes.

The studio will also offer private lessons and group lessons.

“Our goal with starting this studio was to hopefully make it a place where parents and kids feel like they are part of the process,” Sand-Schaedig said.

“As a parent, you will never have to search to find the studio’s owner or struggle to make your voice heard — when you’re talking to your child’s teacher, you’re most likely talking to one of the owners.”

Sand-Schaedig said she and her fellow dancers are excited and nervous for the studio’s opening, which is currently set for July 19.

“There’s so much happening all at once. The next two weeks are going to be busy,” she said. “We have a lot of support from the community, though.”

Stanly, who has worked with the Young People’s Theatre in Ann Arbor, said once the studio is established, she would like to collaborate with arts organizations in Washtenaw County to offer various programs.

“I want our studio to be a place where girls or guys of any skill level feel they can have a place to dance,” she said. “Having a studio has been a dream of mine since I was a child growing up. My mom owns a dance studio in Texas, so I’ve been around dancing all of my life.”

Heinbuch, whose interest in dancing began when she was 10, said she is also excited to open a new studio in Dexter.

“We’re trying to bring something different to the area, and Dexter and Ann Arbor seem to be flourishing with the arts,” she said. “I think it’s important for a community to embrace the arts because it gives people another outlet to express themselves.”

An informational meeting for parents will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the . Parents are encouraged to come visit with the new studio owners and learn about the various programs.

Due to lease requirements, Sand-Schaedig said she can not reveal the studio’s address to the press until she takes ownership of the property later this week.
