Jamie Lynn Macchia crowned Miss Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Jamie Lynn Macchia, of Eltingville, was crowned Miss Staten Island 2012 Saturday night during the 46th Annual Miss Staten Island Scholarship Pageant at New Dorp High School during a spectacular production attended by several hundred people.

Miss Macchia, who is the daughter of Dawn and Tony Macchia, was crowned by her predecessor, Maria DeSantis.

Stephanie Accardo, of Dongan Hills, was also crowned Miss Richmond County, by Amanda Lee Alicea, last year's  titleholder.

Miss Accardo is the daughter of Donna and Joseph Accardo. Her platform is called "Everybody Knows Somebody," and its about spreading awareness of eating disorders.

Hannah Perri, of Grasmere, was crowned Miss Staten Island Outstanding Teen by Shreya Jain, Miss Staten Island Outstanding Teen 2011.

And Alexa Moley, of Westerleigh, was crowned Miss Richmond County Outstanding Teen 2012.

During her reign, the new Miss Staten Island will advocate for spreading awareness about the Make-A-Wish Foundation in memory of her friend, Dominic.

The winners will move on to compete at the state pageant at the St. George Theatre this summer.

During the talent portion of the competition, the new Miss Staten Island Staten Island performed an interpertive dance. Miss Accordo performed a jazz dance. The first runner up was Amanda Rae Davis.

Miss Macchia was attired in an electric blue floor length evening gown trimmed with ruffles. Miss Accordo wore an evening gown of white chiffon trimmed with rhinestones.

Miss Macchia was presented with a high-fashion pearl necklace donated by Edith Susskind, a longtime pageant sponsor.

Both Miss Staten Island and Miss Richmond County received $3,000 in scholarship funding.

Other awards included: The Higher Education Award, Jamie Lynn Macchia; Miss Congeniality, Jamie Lynn Macchia; Performing Arts Award, Jamie Lynn Macchia; Music Appreciation Award, Angelica Herrera; Senator Diane Savino Award, Hannah Perri; Assemblyman Cusick Award, Stephanie Accardo; In Memory of Big Daddy Award, Amanda Rae Davis; Thomas Granello Allstate Award, Jessica Wagman; Founder Achievement Award, Domenica Bellantuono; Sarah Rivkin Award, Jalessa Peterkin; Make a Difference Award, Alyssa De Paolis; Leadership Award in memory of Al Susskind, Victoria Leahy; Artistic Merit Award, Alexa Nicole Moley; Miss Photogenic Award, Samantha Wrenn; American Pride Award, Dana Telese; Star of Tomorrow Award, Samantha Wrenn; Excellence in Stage Performance, Carissa Suzanne Frisca.
