It gets 5 stars for the hot stone massage from Jonathan. It was his first day working at this spa so I felt lucky to get him. I have had other hot stone massages and some are wonderful and some you are wishing it would end quickly. He obviously has been trained in the proper techniques and it was incredibly relaxing, I even dozed off for a minute. I slept like a baby that night too since I was still relaxed.
I do agree the place is a little small and the waiting room is nice but fills up sometimes. It is fun to have lunch in the area and go for a treatment after. Nice area to walk around. They say they pay for valet parking at the Riverside Hotel, but since I had lunch their it was already covered.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jackie B.Pasadena, CA11627170Jul 6, 2011
Draft of my review started while waiting for my hour-long body wrap. Finished now that I'm sitting back in old CA, logging onto Yelp to finish this review!
Expecting a mango body wrap of some kind, never experienced before, and probably won't experience... I ended up receiving a massage. Which was very nice and targeted to my sore back muscles. But what I asked for was not what I ultimately received at the hands of my talented masseuse. Strange.
Also while I was there I scheduled an appointment for later that afternoon that I had to cancel (commitment phobia? no, just a change of plans. As a tourist, it's known to happen) and the cancellation fee is the cost of the missed treatment. Omg that was a shock my credit card dutifully absorbed. But, still... Injustice!
Overpriced spa treatments but relaxing atmosphere. At what price?!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Callie H.Portland, OR11144Apr 24, 2015
My go-to spa!! I have been here a number of times for a plethora of services and am never disappointed. I have had simple pedicures and manicures (Tran is PHENOMENAL) to laser hair removal, Pixel, and Accent. The massages, body wraps, and facials are oh so relaxing as well.
I have always struggled with acne and am sensitive to many facial products. Brynndle at Portland Spa has set me up with a line of products that have cleared my skin and I will never use anything else!
The front desk staff is so attentive and professional. The waiting room for services is private and they even offer wine before certain services (can't go wrong!)
I recommend this to all of my friends and even people I don't know. I am a long time customer and will be back for all my future self pampering needs!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rosie O.San Jose, CA117346461Apr 9, 2015
Came here to this spa as a treat for my bride-to-be sister and her friends as part of an afternoon bachelorette event. Half of us got massages while the other half got manis/pedis. The spa itself is rather small but has a great view of the waterfront. (If you're getting a mani/pedi, it's a beautiful and tranquil view). The front desk area shares its space with the mani/pedi stations, and the back rooms are where the massages take place.
I got their 60-minute Deep Tissue Massage ($90). It's a bit pricey, but if done well, it is money well spent.
My masseuse was friendly and asked if I had any requests or concerns before we got started. I told her that I wanted more focus on my stiff neck & shoulders. She listened and did a nice job working the kinks. I also enjoyed the strong pressure. The massage table/chair was heated and kept my body warm throughout the service which was a nice touch.
If I was rating solely on the relaxation and pressure of my massage, it'd be a 3.5/4 stars, but I can't give more than 2 stars to this place for the overall experience. My masseuse kept lathering on lotion throughout the massage, running her hands through my hair and scalp, causing me to leave the spa with ruined oily hair. It simply got so bad that I had to go to a Regis salon to get a walk-in shampoo because I had another engagement to go to afterwards. It was also disappointing since my sister got the same massage and also came out looking overly oiled (luckily her hair is long and she's able to tie it up to hide the grease).
Spas are meant to make you feel relaxed and refreshed but this place left me oily, disgusted and broke. In the end, I paid $90 for heavy pressure lotioning..... -__- it was NOT money well spent.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Andie M.Mill Valley, CA0581Jul 24, 2015
Terrific spa! Amazing service, relaxing and were very accommodating taking my last minute reservation.
I had the green facial by Wendy and she was great. Took time to use the best products and the neck and scalp massage were a lovely bonus.
Pedi and mani also super relaxing and she took her time. The view of the river is nice, too.
I highly recommend it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rayna A.Mill Valley, CA761370268Mar 7, 2011
Yay shellac! I love that the paint doesn't chip, and stays shiny. I also think that the laser hair removal packages seemed reasonably priced compared to other spas. But are pedi' supposed to be dry?
What I liked: I brought my best friend here to try Shellac for her B-day, which neither of us had before. I got a pedi-cure and she got a mani ($80 combined). The lady doing my nails was cool and I liked that it was a really small spa.
What I didn't like: I didn't know that you don't have to pay for parking. Also, I've never had a pedi-cure where they don't soak, wash or massage my feet first - totally dry process. Having my cuticles pushed down and clipped while cold and dry was uncomfortable (for me). I'm guessing that they don't soak your hands and feet for a reason, given the chemicals used in this three step process but it was a little weird. Or maybe because they offer additional foot spa services, but I would never offer a "pedicure" that involved just nail color...especially not at $40.
Also, my friend got a nude polish which kept picking up lint from the black towels they use. The sweet lady corrected the lint, but it added time to our already 2hr visit. When we left, I found more black lint in her nails, which sucks since Shellac is meant to last at least 2 weeks - having black lint baked into your nude nails for two weeks on your birthday is not cool.
I really wanted to like this place because it looks nice and I visit this city often. Also, I go to spas pretty often since my gym dubs as one - I just didn't know what to expect.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kristina K.Portland, OR309562643Mar 12, 2009Updated review
The manager called me. Just a call. I never asked for balloons and sparklers; the little "Hello, how ya doin'," did it for me. She was also the person who booked my appointment; which I recalled was a very pleasant experience. She wanted to know what happened with my experience and didn't want anyone leaving feeling forgotten.
People go to a salon and spa to be pampered, and to leave a place with such an opposite feeling as that is such a turn-off and the manager understood. She was a good listener, understanding and a problem solver.

Thank you. I appreciate your efforts and commend your taking charge of the situation.
She said Portland Spa & Boutique is doing more technician training. She offered the same service or a different one of my choice.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Mar 2, 2009Previous reviewI like Erin. She helped me out with my eyebrow wax, and she does a great design. She is a perfectionist and I think that characteristic works perfectly with the line of work. I will go back to her in a heartbeat.
Though... I've had waxes before... almost everywhere, but I haven't had a reaction, EVER(!!!), like I experienced at Portland Spa & Boutique. We haven't found a root to the problem, yet. After my appointment, in less than 16 hours, my eyes brows were swollen, red, hot and itchy (good thing I only had this done on my eyebrows and not bikini area!!!). Separately those symptoms are do-able, but combined, it only made matters unbearable. I called 48 to 72 hours after my visit and spoke with a manager. She sent me away with serum, but it only made matters worse. The swelling spread to my eyelids and I couldn't open my eyes in the morning. I called her the next day but she never called me back. I took Benadryl for three (3) days afterwards, the swelling resided, but the medicine knocked me out.
I wish the manager called me back after I tried her recommended serum treatment. She said she would follow up with me after the serum, but I felt like she was avoiding me instead. She offered to try out a different wax to see if I have the same reaction. I am hesitant. - ToniAnn M.Portland, OR9019760Feb 24, 2009
This place is a pretty decent day spa. It's clean, quiet, comfortable, & the staff are friendly. It borders on being pretentious & snooty.... it's almost like it's the girl who wants to be, has the potential to be, but she can't because she's just too nice.
A little on the pricey side in my opinion, but specials that run (almost on an all the time basis) make up for that. Not to mention the 10% resident discount if you live in the SW Riverfront district!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kristiin P.Saratoga, CA637426Jul 7, 2008
While the rest of my group was dragging themselves along at the convention center.... I chose to relax and have a luxurious manicure at this spa.
It was completely spur of the moment and luckily they fit me in within 30 minutes of my calling.
The spa is set on the river and has a great view of those running and walking their pets along the trail. If you are in portland for business and don't get a chance to see the actual river this is one great way.
The staff were extremely friendly and gave an excellent manicure overall....that is still in tact as I am typing this!
I only wish I had more time to go back for a massage!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jen J.Beaverton, OR229421Feb 24, 2014
I got a groupon for the Laser hair removal service and was pleased with the service that I received. I went for 7 visits and had the service done by two different girls there. They were both great and very informative.
On When I was in for my 5th visit, they said that after my groupon visits (which covered 6) ran out, it would only be $20 for touch-ups. I thought this was great and knew I was going to need to keep coming for a probably 5 or 6 more treatments, so I made my next appointments. After I had my 7th visit, they said that they forgot that since I had a groupon, that my touch-ups would actually by $50. That is a big difference. If I would have been told that in the first place, that is one thing, but since they originally told me it was going to be less, they should honor that.
Unfortunately, that is too much, in my opinion, so I wont be back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
