Note: I went on a (quiet) Monday afternoon as a guest (else it's $20 admission, $10 if you're with a member/event). There were less than 30 people hanging out, so I had my pick of sunny/shady spot and lounge chairs.
* Deck: the sunny side is tightly packed with nice adjustable lounge chairs and a few umbrellas. Daybeds and cabanas available for an additional fee.
* Pool: very small in relation to the amount of deck space. The water is ... not ideal. Filmy due to sunscreen, tanning oils, etc (?). I immediately regretted going in the water.
* Towels: Complimentary at the check-in desk, but you might have to wait for availability.
* Lockers: Quite nice! I didn't use them as I was traveling light for another event.
* Showers: Could use a makeover. Dim lighting, didn't look clean, no rinse agents, and some didn't drain well (saw some yellowish liquid (I'm not going to say it) pooled in one).
* Service/Drinks/Food: N/A. I was holding off due to a dinner event, but no servers approached until I was leaving 2H later.
A cute oasis with more of a South Beach/Vegas pool vibe where folks go to see and be seen. I really really wanted to like it more, but the pool was rather icky and the condition of the showers didn't help my frantic attempt at decontamination. Not sure if there's a particular day they clean the pool - maybe go that day or the day after? Friends were giving me a hard time for going to the free Philly public pools, but the water was always clean and monitored consistently.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jai M.Philadelphia, PA1506669Aug 26, 2015

I really like this place, but I think it fancies itself too much. I went on a Sunday last month, and nearly all of the cabanas were unoccupied. We asked what it would cost to rent one, and the price was more than we had paid in Vegas. I'm sorry, but no, northern liberties isn't even center city philly, let alone Vegas. Otherwise, I enjoyed it. Their drinks are overpriced (not enough competition) and the seats are hard to come by (not enough competition), but at least there's a place to go swim and enjoy cocktails at the same time.
Other things to keep in mind: they limit guests, guest passes are overpriced, overload of jersey shore people, and smaller pool.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 4665161107Jul 13, 2013
I was here for the Yelp Soiree, and it was a great party, well done by all of the organizers and outside food vendors who participated in the event.
I have to say that I was not so impressed with the club itself or with the pool. There were no towels available, as it was advertised on the website. Also, when I was (unfortunately) dunked in the water, I could tell that it was pretty dirty. I couldn't see/feel any jets circulating clean water out into the pool, and there were bugs and a band-aid that kept floating near me!
It took a while to actually enter the venue, as security was pretty strict. They were saying that women weren't allowed to bring perfume bottles in, and many other crazy strict rules for entering this "club".
I'm glad I got to check this place out at a free event, and I'm positive that I would never pay for an actual membership to join.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Gabriela S.Philadelphia, PA12260425Aug 9, 2015
I have gone to North shore three times and each time it was worse than the previous. I kept giving it the benefit of the doubt, but the pool is always FILTHY. There are always creepy, drunk guys trying to rub up against women and the staff can be very rude. I seriously do not know why people buy memberships at this place.
I have gone swimming at six different philly public pools and they are ALL much cleaner, polite staff and FREE. The public pools are tested and cleaned/treated several times a day and the Health department even checks/test the water from time to time.

I stopped in on Saturday afternoon for an event my friend was DJing. Typical pool and lounge set up. They have food available such as the chopped salad and beet salad both of which are good. They have some frozen drink offerings--typical strawberry daiquiri and margaritas etc.
It was not very busy the day we went but that was nice as I could actually here myself talk. Typical pool parties here the music is usually too loud. They have a members only policy and to come as a non member you must pay a guest pass which is overpriced at $20.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rachel S.Philadelphia, PA215257595Sep 2, 2015
I joined this summer with the incentive of a half priced 2016 membership and the use of the remainder of this season. So far so good. It's definitely a party scene which I like, but keep in mind that at 4pm, the music gets really f-ing loud and annoying. Lots of boozing all day.
I've noticed all body types, so even though there are some really hot people who clearly put in the time at the gym and on their tan, there are average-looking people such as myself who will wear a one-piece and lather on the SPF.
There are often drink specials and there is a kitchen, although haven't eaten there yet, so can't comment.
Locker rooms are clean - but just like any bathroom/locker room in a large venue, wear footwear!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ficha D.Philadelphia, PA015Jan 7, 2015Updated review
Final update from me- after maintaining my membership for three seasons I will not be renewing again.
The main reason being that the place is too crowded -- why do I need a membership when it seems like everyone in Philly can come in any time that they please? People pay for a membership so as to have some exclusivity and space. I liked it better the previous two seasons when things were a little quieter and felt a bit more private.A crowded place leads to greater problems- dirty bathrooms, empty cans and cups, busy servers etc.
Also, the bouncers are ridiculous. I know you're trying to be clubby, but I don't need the bouncer examining my asthma medication in its pharmaceutical bottle with prescription sticker on it. Its become that kind of place, so yeah, gross. No thanks.
I'd probably return if: memberships weren't oversold and if promotional coupons/deals were more limited thus making memberships more valuable.
If North Shore were to grown up a little bit I'd come back.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0May 28, 2013Previous reviewI am very happy to be writing this positive review update:
After a few visits this season, including Memorial day, I can say that it feels like the club is making some good changes. The drink menu has changed quite a bit-- lots of new spiked lemonades and other cocktails. All are priced well and available in large sizes for sharing (fun!). The drinks actually have alcohol in them this year. So good work updating the bar!
One thing that's always been good is the food. Still really yummy at a good price.
Biggest improvement would have to be the service. My waitresses have been SO MUCH BETTER than last year.
The pool was warm, the music was fun without being annoying. I brought two guests and both were really impressed and can not wait to return.
One criticism-- the bathroom needs to be cleaned hourly, at minimum. Three visits to the bathroom and each time there were missing/low paper towels, no toilet paper etc.
So kudos. Keep up the good work-- keep moving toward a more gender neutral/female friendly environment, and I promise you that the club will be super successful.May 7, 2013Previous reviewI'm a member, renewing this season. Last season had some bumps in the road but management was quick to rectify the situation. Over all, if you enjoy sun bathing and day drinking in a pool setting, I recommend the North Shore Beach Club.
I'm happy to hear that this coming season brings some changes to the hours of operation. I think it will work better for the club.
With that said, I am not looking forward to another season of the same tired club music and put-on persona. I just feel like this place caters to one specific type of sort of douchey club-going member, and ignores the tastes and preferences of every one else. The priority should be maintaining a clean swim club: including a clean pool with clean locker facilities. Instead the priority seems to be selling "bottle service" of Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka (sorry, I just find that to be hilarious). Meanwhile, the majority of the members just want to hang out, enjoy food and drinks, have a swim and socialize without all of the tired clubby pretense. We're adults, we don't need the atmosphere to feel so "The Jersey Shore"
I brought a ton of guests last summer and while enjoyed their time there, almost none wished to pursue a membership because of the predominant attitude. I'm not saying that the place isn't welcoming, its just totally focused on serving a specific type that isn't me.
My suggestions: music variety. Some of my favorite times last season were when the music was down tempo or more chill.
-a bit more drink variety would be good. When people are outside relaxing in the sun they want refreshing drinks, not sugary gross stuff. More mojitos and other cocktails that are made with fresh ingredients please.
-and finally, I wish they'd tone down the douchey feeling "Bikini Team" and the similar. Every time I've been there I've seen tons of women as members, and the focus on that stuff doesn't feel female-positive to me. Its seriously tasteless, tacky and the opposite of classy. Why not throw some promotional stuff that is interesting to more people? Are you only trying to get the bro as a member? Because my friends and I aren't bros and we spent a ton of money there every weekend. Know your membership a little better.
Edit to add: It does really bother me that most of their marketing seems to come from the male perspective. Why not push the club as a place to meet hot people of all genders and sexual orientations? Because it is! And you can market that in a way that feels both female and gay-positive and makes the place look like a lot of fun. Which it can be. You would build a membership base effortlessly by doing that. I wonder how much of my membership dues are going toward this "bikini team" nonsense-- how about putting that money into throwing an awesome party or adding some new amenities. Who cares about the "bikini team" how about the bikini babes that are members of your club? Can we get regularly filled shampoo/conditioner in the locker room? Maybe some newer stuff in there? That would be better than the investments that you are making right now. - Nicki W.Philadelphia, PA2323May 26, 2015
After 3 years of living within a few blocks of North Shore, I finally decided to become a member this year. I had visited a few times as a guest, and despite hearing a lot of mixed reviews, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I visited with my husband on Memorial Day.
It seems as though the club has taken feedback from the members to heart and tried to tone down the absurd "club vibe" that it had endorced in the past few years. I'm not saying it didn't get pretty pool party-esque later in the day, but I was pleased that from 11-1 the music was more laid back, the pool wasn't super crowded and the service was very prompt. I don't mind the party vibe, but it was nice to have a few hours where it was calmer.
I would recommend getting their early and sitting up on the top deck of chairs if you want to avoid a lot of the club vibe that the pool becomes later in the afternoon. The food was pretty decent (had tuna tacos and chicken fingers) and the waitresses were more attentive than I had expected given that it ended up being pretty crowded. Their drink selection is really good, including a lot of different beers and some bucket specials. The bathrooms and seating area were very clean and well kept.
As the day went on, there was definitely a different crowd who was looking to party and by 3pm, the music changes over to more house, EDM, and the pool area gets a little rowdier. But overall, I was pretty happy with the experience, especially given that it was Memorial Day and I had definitely heard negative things about North Shore.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - A N.Philadelphia, PA21092Aug 13, 2016
The one star is for the service/waitress/pool/etc. (not that I can leave less) I am deducting four stars for the horrible security man who sits in the lobby. I was here this past Saturday afternoon (8/13/16) and finished hanging with my friends. I was sitting on the bench by the door, waiting for my uber, minding my own business, scrolling on my phone...A guy was in the waiting room talking loudly on the phone right next to me and this security guy from 15 feet away yells "why don't you smile?" I'm still sitting there, I didn't even hear him because I'm DEAF in my right ear and I continue to scroll away like no one was talking to me. Well he gets pissed and yells it louder and also yells "what's the matter with you? I'm talking to you!" At this point I'm like-"ummmm, EXCUSE ME??" He goes "I'm telling you to smile. You be so pretty if you smiled!" I informed him I would smile if I damn well pleased!..." (Duh.!!!!) And I look down at my phone. Ignoring him, continue to scroll and sit there.
He comes over and tells me to "GET THE F*** OUT." YUP. I was like "what? You can't do that. I'm just sitting here, minding my own business, not smiling, (which I have EVERY right to do!!!!!!) you can't tell me to leave for that." He points to his shirt which says "security" and informs me he IS security. Lol.
What an incredible A-HOLE and abuse of the little bit of power he has as a security guard!!I told him I didn't hear him the first time he was talking to me and he actually told me to get out again!
NO MAN has the right to tell a woman or anyone what kind of expression they prefer on that persons face!!!! Do you realize this is SEXUAL HARASSMENT!???? And then penalize/kick them out them because they didn't smile at you!!!!?????
WHERE DID THEY FIND THIS LOSER!!??? I was minding my own business, completely quiet, sitting alone!
On my way out he goes "yeah, go sit outside in the hot f***ing sun (and laughs) and don't smile! I'm security I can do what I want." And he walked back to his perch.
Apparently I was a perfect victim for this nasty jerk and bully!!!!!!!!! :( I will not ever come here again unless they rid themselves of this terrible individual.
North Shore/Monarch hired a security guard whos a loose cannon, who's power hungry, and clearly a BULLY. This guy is an enormous liability for them and it's only a matter of time before he explodes at someone else worse than he did to me.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
