WICKED LITTLE LETTERS Inspired
by a true story. Set in a1920s English seaside town, the film follows two
neighbors: deeply conservative local Edith Swan and rowdy Irish migrant Rose
Gooding. When fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of
unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the
crime. These letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However,
as the town's women begin to investigate the crime, they suspect that
something is amiss. A very funny
British comedy crowd-pleaser with heartfelt performances from Olivia Colman
and Jessie Buckley, Wicked Little Letters is a jolly bit of fun! Rated
14A (coarse & sexual lang) 1hr42 |
CIVIL WAR **Ends this week** In the
near future, a team of journalists travel across the United States during a rapidly-escalating multiparty Second American Civil War
that has engulfed the entire nation. The film documents the journalists
struggling to survive during a time when the U.S. government has become a
dystopian dictatorship. Critics are calling Civil War a masterpiece about war
journalism with an award caliber performance from Kirsten Dunst. A
heart-in-mouth, urgent, crowd pleasing spectacle,
Civil War is one of the year’s best films and will likely inspire needed
conversation. Rated
14A (violence, coarse lang) 1hr50 |
THE OLD OAK The Old Oak is the last pub standing
in a once thriving mining village in northern Englan.
There is growing resentment and a lack of hope among the residents, but the
pub and its proprietor TJ are a fond presence to their customers. When a
group of Syrian refugees move into the floundering village, a decisive rift
fueled by prejudices develops between the community and its newest
inhabitants. The formation of an unexpected friendship between TJ and a young
Syrian woman named Yara opens up new possibilities for
the divided village. The final film of prolific British director, Ken Loach,
The Old Oak is an engrossing, thoughtful, heartfelt, and hopeful film that
champions empathy, unity, and unconditional kindness. Rated 14A (coarse lang) 1hr55 |
