Since September, I've gone to 4 G's at least once every week or two, mainly as a result of a chips and salsa craving. Their service has markedly improved since my last review-- the waitress who is usually there at lunch is fantastic. At this point she has our usual orders memorized.
As far as food goes, I'm not a fan of their tacos or the chicken enchiladas. The tamale is pretty good. What I love are their chips and salsa, guacamole, cheese enchiladas, and the chile rellenos. They offer the normally Americanized crispy one, but the one they call the "Mexican chile relleno" is just a pepper stuffed with cheese smothered in sauce, and it's fantastic.
I can get lunch here for under $5, and even on days I order more food, my bill is under $10.
I'm a fan, and a regular customer.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Sep 24, 2011Previous reviewThis is a decent little Mexican place on Colorado Boulevard. On a Friday lunchtime, it was surprisingly empty. The chips and salsa were great. I enjoyed my cheese enchilada a lot-- the sauce was great and it wasn't overly greasy. My soft chicken taco fell apart on me, but my friend liked her hard beef taco and said the rice and beans were good as well. They have a big menu, and serve breakfast all day, which is awesome.
Our server was friendly, but confused-- she actually switched everything we ordered. We got each other's entrees, she got my side of sour cream, and she even reversed our credit cards on the check. They only had two tables, so it's hard to say what was going on.
Overall though, the food was good and cheap. I'll definitely be back for lunch. - Dec 30, 2013
Came here on a Saturday morning in search of some breakfast after getting my butt kicked at bootcamp. It was surprisingly empty. Maybe 2 or 3 others were in there.
Had the breakfast burrito with green chile sauce and chorizo. YUM. This was me making up for all the calories I burned at bootcamp, and dangit I earned it. Chile sauce was good and spicy and the burrito btw was HUGE. I ate half and took the rest home for another day.
Service is excellent. They are so friendly. I would go back to try lunch or dinner there. It's so close to home for me, after all.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elena V.San Francisco, CA014128May 27, 2013
As someone else said, the portions are huuuge and unexpected.
They give you chips and salsa when you're seated-- The salsa is freaking delicious.
I had a smothered beef adobada burrito, and the meat itself was kind of odd tasting. I'm not really familiar with what beef adobada is supposed to taste like, but I wish I got shredded beef instead.
The stuff the burrito was smothered in was also very different than what I'm used to at mexican joints. It kind of tasty like... Gravy. Burrito gravy?
None the less, very affordable and the service was alright.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mary Jo S.Denver, CO346619455Oct 27, 2011
The husband and our BCFs decided to try Four G's without looking at Yelp; we did not want to be biased. Walking into an empty restaurant on a Friday night does not give you a warm and fuzzy but we ventured on and all 4 of us are glad we did.
The Reasons:
1) $6.00 Top shelf margarita with a good mix
2) Breakfast served all day. My huevos rancheros were divine; there were three eggs sitting on top of a thin slice of smoked ham. The green chili was perfectly seasoned as well as the rice/beans. All served with a Top Shelf Margarita!
3) The carne adovada and cheese enchiladas were also good choices.
4) The prices are great for the neighborhood.
5) Great service.
6) The bus stops out front and across the street which kills two birds with one stone. The parking is not the best in this area as there are other places to dine and the lots get filled up AND you can have two Top Shelf margaritas.
All four of us have decided that Four G's will be our new go to place.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Alissa R.Tucson, AZ275295470May 24, 2013
This place really wants to help you gain weight, the portions are huge and they enjoy decorating everything with bright orange cheese-the plates come out glowing.
I have been more than once and nothing has really stood out food-wise for me. Guacamole is very bland (at least the kind they use on tostadas), beans and rice are boring, and nothing really pops with a wow factor.
In no way is this terrible food, just not a destination spot for me. The service was fine and polite, but they've claimed before not to have change for a $20? That's fine, I had plastic too. The meal combos are a great value, if that's what you're looking for.
I'm sure I'll wonder in again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jesse B.Denver, CO194638Jul 20, 2011First to Review
The place was very clean. It has been open for about a week now. They have a full bar and excellent Margaritas. They serve great traditional mexican dishes, tacos, burritos, combination plates and they also server breakfast all day long.
Large space, friendly staff.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jordan P.Mooresville, NC133344276Dec 11, 2013
BREAKFAST BURRITO! It is my absolute favorite thing here! (The $6.50 one). I get bacon every time and there are full strips in there! The green chili is delicious and does have some kick to it but being that I don't do well with spicy foods, I can handle the burrito. Oh, and it is HUGE! I have also had the flautas which are quite good.
It's a very simple restaurant, minimal decor but the staff are always very friendly and the service is good. They have a lot of daily drink specials as well as good food specials. Their prices are reasonable and the portions are big.
I definitely recommend it if you are just looking for something quick but good :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Becky C.Denver, CO12354May 13, 2014Purchased a Yelp Deal
Great service. Good drinks.
But as far as mexican food goes I was not impressed.
I can't imagine I'll go back here again. My quest for good mexican food in denver continues on.....Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joel L.Denver, CO293Apr 12, 2014Purchased a Yelp Deal
I'd love to write a better review but I don't remember what I had there. I remember the food being sort of bland with too much heat! Unfairly so, I judge Mexican places by the chips and salsa they serve when you sit down. That's usually a good indication of what the food is going to be like... Their salsa was hot!
I probably will not go back. I decided to try it because they had a Yelp special going one - $10 for $20 worth of food. I say if you want some truly tasty Mexican food, go to 7 Leguas.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Troy R.Denver, CO48194Oct 27, 2014
I have been here twice.
The first time I ordered from the menu. It was very good.
Recently I stopped in and they were having a buffet. It was average, but then most buffets are. The chili rellenos were nothing but fried batter. One relleno had a bit of pepper.
The manager was a little creepy because he would stand by the buffet staring at me and other three customers as we served ourselves as if saying to himself "Ooh, are they doing it right? Or, you don't put cucumbers on a pizza (Seinfeld ref.)"
The atmosphere is blah. I mean, turn the music up or something.
I will give it one more attempt in the future.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
