Such a fun outing! I think this would fun for ages 5 and up! They have an area that safe for beginners and a told of different levels! We got belay certified - which for me made me feel way more confident and comfortable! Personal free climbing isn't for me - way to scared but they have 3 different "climbing" options (automatic belay, 2 belay, and free climbing)! I am not a pro rock climber so my terms may be incorrect. This was my second time and it was another great experience!

BLUF: Tiny weight area, a mere convenient stop gap while my usual gym is closed for the holidays.
It's a rock climbing gym so I wouldn't expect it to have lifting platforms or oly bars or bumper plates. It has the essentials, safety arms, rack, weight. I'm happy they open at 5:30AM, it allows me to have free reign of the area before anyone else is there. I suspect after 10AM, it'll get too crowded for a proper workout.
Not a regular member at TRC, I have had this one punch card (10 visits) for nearly three years now so happy to see that it's getting its uses.
I have climbed and received belay instructions a couple times in the past. I remember both being a fun experience.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - AJ S.Los Angeles, CA06321Nov 23, 2022
Overpowering air freshener odor. Not a pleasant experience working out with cancer causing toxic chemicals spraying all over.
Good gym otherwise but wish they'd stop using this nasty stuff.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Daniela S.NC, NC043Jul 18, 2023

It took me two times come here to realize that there are two climbing rooms there is a small room in a larger room in the larger room the walls or higher. I love coming to triangle rock gym they have a lot of really convenient locations around the Triangle area and in Fayetteville North Carolina. The staff are really welcoming and no one should be afraid to come here as a newbie or for the first time. This location has plenty of climbing walls that are easier for the beginner. I feel as if all ratings are represented for the beginner, intermediate, and the more experienced climber. There are cubbies for peoples belongings. You must wear climbing shoes on the rocks. There are plenty of bouldering, top rope, and lead rope climbing areas. And I have always been able to get on a wall even when it's more crowded people flow through really well.

This gym has become more chaotic and disappointing since my last review. First off all, this location needs to be thoroughly sanitized. I always have to pee before, or hold my pee because the bathrooms are always nasty. I also recommend bringing a water bottle because I have seen kids putting their mouths on the water fountains. All the cubbies are covered in chalk and dirt, and I hate putting my stuff in them. The equipment in the weight room is also covered in chalk/dirt as are the floors/crashpads.
I also have an issue with the overall management of the facility, particularly the membership. They frequently close off bouldering areas (for example, only the expansion is open on Friday mornings even though the gym is advertised as open at 5:30) without announcement. I have driven to both locations before only to be turned away because the bouldering area is closed off for competitions or other events. They need a better way to communicate these closures to their paying members. The few fitness classes I have attended are not worth it either. Their routesetting schedule is weird, I once froze my membership for a month because they hadn't changed up the routes in so long. When I unfroze my membership a month later, most of the same routes were still up! I think its bizarre for an entire wall to go unchanged for 6+ weeks.
The more irritating part for me however is that there are always unsupervised children running around and interfering with people on the wall. I have had to warn children to move out of the way several times when they were goofing around right below my boyfriend while he was on the wall. I once witnessed a child start to climb down from the top-off wall while someone was in the middle of a route and he just had to jump off! Another time, there were two kids running around opening the doors on the walls and hiding inside them. This went on for at least 20 minutes before I finally informed a staff member. I have no problem sharing the space with children, and I love seeing kids who are really serious about it, but I do wish there was an age restricted area like there is at most other gyms I have been to, so that serious climbers can focus.
Since I love climbing I will continue my membership, but if you are the fence about joining, I would avoid.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 16, 2016Previous reviewWe are usually patrons of the North Raleigh location, but came here last night when North Raleigh TRC was closed for some event. This location is not as clean as North Raleigh--the shoes are all kind of old and dingy and the cubby holes are all covered in chalk. However, as a beginner boulder-er, they have some interesting bouldering routes, and I actually felt a little more challenged at this location. I do think that their bouldering walls are a little over-crowded with routes though, sometimes you end up with your feet on the wrong color unintentionally simply because there are just so many routes crammed into a small place. It is cool that you can top off on one of their bouldering walls though. Their harness climbing is also super high!

Great staff and good variety of things to climb, i mainly boulder and there's a ton of options. Not too busy during student hours which is great too.

I had so much fun here with my family on a Saturday mid-day. It wasn't too crowded, and the employees were very friendly and helpful. We watched an intro and safety video before we got our harnesses and shoes. The rental prices seemed very reasonable for a full day of fun.
My brother has experience belaying so they have him a test and then we were good to go. This was my first time rock climbing, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I really loved the bouldering options. The top rope walls were awesome, clearly labeled with difficulty scores, and there was a huge selection. I'd definitely go back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Oct 14, 2018
I climb regularly at another gym but was in the area and wanted to boulder. Like most climbing gyms you start out with 5-10 minutes of paperwork and safety videos. The facility itself is nice. The staff were friendly and helpful in answering my questions about the layout of the gym.
Here's my critique: There are kids running around everywhere. I felt like if I fell off the wall, there was a 50% chance that I'd land on someone.
I wasn't really a fan of the boulder settings. It didn't seem like there were many routes set, even though there were start tags, when I was sighting them I couldn't determine where some of them ended as there were no clear finishes. Some "routes" had tape at the top of the wall indicating a place to end, but there weren't taped areas for all routes and there were a bunch in rough shape. A lot of the holds were slippery, so I didn't feel comfortable climbing that high. Also, it didn't seem like most of the routes had enough footholds, when meant that handholds were used as footholds and when I finished climbing, my hands were absolutely filthy.
Additionally, it seemed like a lot of kids were wearing sneakers on the top roping walls-which negates the point of the "take your climbing shoes off before entering the bathroom" signs that I was admiring.
I used the cardio equipment, which is upstairs in an isolated room. The view is beautiful, though I thought it was strange that the weight room was so far from the cardio. I guess overall it's a good use of space. It seemed like there were a bunch of people just hanging out enjoying their the space.
Bottom line: This place wasn't for me but to each their own!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
