Hussong’s Cantina Restaurant Review:

Hussong’s Cantina brings one of Baja California’s favorite Mexican spots to Mandalay Place. With all the charms of the original in Ensenada, just 50 miles south of Tijuana, Hussong’s creates an authentic experience. Executive chef Noe Alcala has a long history serving Mexican fare, working as executive chef at Diablo’s Cantina at the Monte Carlo, and Pink Taco at the Hard Rock Hotel. The authentic flavors start with corn tortillas made as they are ordered. The elote plazero slathers grilled corn with a combination of mayonnaise and butter, smothered in cotija cheese. Tacos come on the homemade corn tortillas in choices such as chicken, steak, shrimp or fish, perfect for sharing. The eight-ounce grilled salmon is finished with a honey-chipotle glaze and served over roasted garlic red potatoes and sautéed vegetable spaghetti. Thinly rolled flautas come with slow-cooked pulled chicken. For dessert, try the sopapillas, with just a touch of cinnamon, or the churros with a pastry cream to balance out the flavor of the cake.
