IV. History of Meditation

M
editation is an ancient form of mental, spiritual and physical health practices. The earliest records of written meditation techniques are Hindu scriptures called tantra’s that are said to be written 5,000 years ago. The history of meditation must not be attributed merely on the Buddhists and the Hindus. The Muslims also claim that meditation has become an Islamic practice, dating back to the time of the Prophet Mohammed. This is according to the beliefs of the Sufis of Islam.

Western religions such as Christianity and Judaism also have their place in the history of meditation; however, meditation is not widely practiced or taught in these religions, when compared to the Middle Eastern and Asian traditions.

Purpose of Meditation:

Meditation isn’t ritual. It isn’t worship. It’s insight. For it is the mental pursuit that facilitates an inward journey to know your true self; allowing for the path to be open to the Divine Source. When we tune out all of the external distractions, we touch into the external essence of who we really are. We awake to our true self!

With my meditative healings you will learn to eliminate the forces affecting your mind and body. You will let your consciousness flow by releasing the locks and dams of your beliefs or attachments – anger, hatred, self-loathing, feelings of unworthiness, jealousy, control, greed, bitterness, guilt, pain – and watch as they eventually drift downstream, out of you. The sooner you FREE yourself from these limiting thoughts, emotions, judgments & fears will you then be able to embrace and connect to a higher state of enlightenment and begin to understand neutrality.

With continued practice the results are endless, but remember, a seed wilts and dies if not nurtured; so be sure apply what is taught in your daily life. For everyone knows that a happy life requires good health: proper diet, adequate exercise, sufficient rest, proper hygiene, BUT more importantly, yet less well known, is the inner self that needs to be purged and purified daily to ensure for proper healing. If we ignore or neglect this main aspect (spiritual health) of our life, our bodies become weakened, stressed, overwhelmed, burnt-out and eventually ill.

So as you see, meditation is a time to work upon yourself, to tackle the issues which inhibit you from being the person you were meant to be – authentic self.
