It finally feels like summer. And what is the number one thing I do to feel in season when warm weather hits? Don my flip flops. So I better make sure my toe nails are painted.

I firmly believe everyone should try a pedicure at least once a summer. A bright color will put a smile on your face. Having your feet buffed and pampered not only feels good, but will help your skin stay smooth and soft from exposure to the elements.

Enter Revelations Salon & Spa, which has been around since 1994. It used to be located in a very quaint Lakewood home on Detroit Avenue, next to Kauffman Park. I loved the ambience the salon created. It was like stepping into a neighbor's home where you were served lemonade and cookies on the porch.

When I heard Revelations had closed up shop and moved down the street to a new location, I was a little disappointed. I didn’t think they could recapture that atmosphere for me, despite hearing they gutted their new building and created a serene setting.

From the moment I stepped foot inside their new shop, I knew I was wrong.

No, it wasn’t the homey neighborhood feel of the old place. But it was large, gorgeous, and sophisticated. And definitely felt more like a tranquil and relaxing spa.

I was given a tour of the lush waiting room, spa area, and hair service stations, before turning the corner to the separate manicure/pedicure area. As I settled into my pedicure, I felt like if I closed my eyes, the soothing music that played in the background could transport me to a dream island somewhere in the Caribbean.

Despite their rich surroundings, Revelations prices remain reasonable. An Aromatherapy Pedicure is $33 ($31 for men). Your feet are soaked in an oil-enriched bath, exfoliated with a scented scrub, and followed with a soothing foot massage before your toes are polished.

The Spa pedicure is $41 ($39 for men). The spa pedicure is everything in the aromatherapy pedicure plus a papaya pineapple or tropical citrus foot mask.

The nail color I chose was a pink/coral from the OPI brand. I wasn’t gutsy enough to try the new Shrek-inspired colors of greens, lilacs and blues. But my toes walked away happy.

Revelations Salon & Spa is now located at 15620 Detroit Ave. in Lakewood. Parking is available in the back of the salon or on the street. You can reach the salon at (216) 228-2966. The hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays; closed Sundays and Mondays.

What's the scoop? Be sure to ask Revelations about hosting a party in their pedicure bar. They can entertain a party of nine at the same time.
