Virtue/Moir teamed up in 1997. They are the first North American ice dancers to win the Olympic gold medal (2010). They are also the first Canadian ice dancers to win the ISU World Junior Championships (in 2006). Moir's elder brother Danny competed at the international junior level in Ice Dance as well and now coaches. His mother is a skating coach and his father played hockey. The couple returns to competition after sitting out two seasons.
