Jimbo's Pizza Expands to New Location – Just a Few Steps Away

Lemont Patch's 2011 'Business of the Year' has room to grow in a more spacious spot at the corner of Walker and McCarthy roads.

Jimbo’s Pizza owner Jim Mandra is proud of his restaurant’s claim to fame – a whopping 19-inch pizza, affectionately known as “The Lemonster.” And now, the pizzeria proprietor has expanded his restaurant’s space to give patrons plenty of room in which to enjoy the prodigious pie.

Mandra recently moved the restaurant from its 14-year home at the corner of Walker and McCarthy roads to a much roomier space just steps away in the same strip mall.

With the expansion, Jimbo’s Pizza, winner of Lemont Patch’s 2011 Business of the Year award, can now offer its loyal patrons a dine-in choice in addition to the restaurant’s popular carry-out and delivery options.

“It’s a new and improved location,” Mandra said. “We just had a couple of stools at the counter – and now we have seating for 28 to 30 people.”

The roomy new space, which features seating at dark wooden tables and booths complemented by walls covered in warm terra cotta tones and natural wood, was decorated by Mandra’s wife, Sharon.

“She’s also the brains of the operation,” Mandra said with a laugh. “Sharon does the accounting aspect of the business.” And to help keep the family business running smoothly, Mandra credits manager Steve Baker as his “right hand man.”

What’s on the pizza menu at Jimbo’s?

Jimbo’s pizza options offer much more than the famous Lemonster.  Pizza lovers can order their pies with thin/paper thin, Sicilian and gluten-free crusts – and even take-n-bakes to finish in their home ovens, for half price.

And toppings? Jimbo’s has more than a few. Patrons can choose the traditional Italian sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, green pepper and/or onion – or opt for a little more adventurous topping such as pepperoncini, meatballs, Italian beef, bacon, Canadian bacon, hot giardiniera and more.

Pan pizzas include tasty deep dish, stuffed and spinach pies.  And specialty pizzas at Jimbo’s feature 16-inch thin crusts with a variety of toppings – from Jimbo’s Pick (sausage, mushroom, onion and green pepper) to Veggie Delight, The Corleone (sausage, garlic, pepperoncini, diced tomatoes with an olive oil base) and BBQ Chicken (BBQ sauce base with white-meat chicken).

Jimbo’s serves much more than pizza

Don’t be fooled by the word “pizza” in the restaurant’s name – there’s a wide selection of appetizers, sandwiches, pasta dishes, salads and sides available on Jimbo’s menu, too.

For a quick and budget-friendly lunch (served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday) the restaurant offers pizza by the slice for less than $3 and a hot dog special with two Chicago-style hot dogs, fries and a 20-ounce soda for $5.50.

For those with bigger appetites (or those who don’t mind sharing), Jimbo’s specialty  “Rock ‘N Roll Beef Pocket” fills a garlic-butter pizza dough pocket with thinly-sliced Italian beef, sweet peppers, grilled onions, a touch of hot giardiniera and mozzarella cheese – and  serves it up with pizza sauce or au jus for dipping. The beef pocket is available in 12- or 14-inch sizes.

Other sandwiches on the menu include Italian beef or sausage (or a combo of the two), Philly or barbecue beef, homemade meatball, eggplant parmesan, grilled chicken breast, polish sausage and more. Jimbo’s offers mostaccioli, traditional or chili spaghetti, baked or gluten-free pasta, eggplant or chicken parmesan, chicken tenders and fish and chips, as well.

Besides taking advantage of the restaurant's dine-in, carryout and delivery options, you can save yourself hours of preparation by having your next holiday, family or office party catered by Jimbo’s. Items such as tossed green or Caesar salad, sausage and pepper medley, mostaccioli and spaghetti, ravioli, chicken or eggplant parmesan, Italian beef and fried chicken, are available in trays serving 20-25 people.

Jimbo’s Pizza is open from 11 a.m. -9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday, 3-10 p.m. Saturday and 3-9 p.m. Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.
