Bites Nearby: Ghar-E-Kabab

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Silver Spring Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

If you are someone who dreams about Indian food but often skips this delicacy because of the high calorie, high fat, high points, high chance of pig out, you need to check out in Silver Spring. Sure, you may still overindulge. But you will be splurging on Indian and Nepalese delicacies made with all-natural ingredients and healthier cooking practices.

Restaurant founders Chetnath Bhandari, Chandasar Ray and Lok Tiwari write on Ghar-E-Kabab's website,

In our ideal restaurant classic vegetarian dishes would be made from locally grown organic produce effused with Indian and Nepalese spices. Meats would be cooked high over hot charcoal in a tandoor (a traditional clay oven) allowing fats to drain, thereby lowering their cholesterol content...[It would] serve the simple fresh, organic, flavorfully spiced foods that a mother would cook if she came from New Delhi or Katmandu.

See? You have no worries. Belly up to the all-you-can-eat luncheon buffet (offered daily) and fill your plate. Load up on vegetarian delights like aloo ghobi, chana masala, and shahi paneer. Add all of the fresh, in-house made chutneys on the side. And if you have room or carnivorous tendencies, go for the lamb or chicken kabobs and tandoori.

This is also one of the few Indian/Nepalese joints in the area with a bona fide kids' menu, so the Child's Thali provides the perfect opportunity to introduce your children to your dietary obsession. Got a picky, ungrateful, American eater? The Ghar-E-Kabab guys have got your back: there are also chicken tenders, cheese pizza and mac n cheese on there too.
