The Kebab Shop is opening in November at the Encinitas Village shopping center off Encinitas Boulevard and El Camino Real. This will be the third location for the local chain, which has one restaurant downtown and another in Mira Mesa.
Inspired by the popular kebab shops that have taken root across Europe after the 1970s migration of Turks to Germany, The Kebab Shop specializes in Turkish-style sandwiches and wraps — all made with meats that are grilled or slow-cooked on a spit. The menu includes döner kebabs, shawarma, shish kebabs, iskender kebabs, rotisserie plates, falafels, several salads and side dishes, as well as Efes Pilsen Turkish beer.
AJ Akbar, CEO of The Kebab Shop Inc., said the Encinitas menu may include a few new items, though that’s still in the works. He also said construction has just started at the Encinitas location, and the goal was to open in three months, though that's subject to change, so check Encinitas Patch for updates.
