Tuesdays: Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Reading Room
11 am - 2 pm

The Reading Room is each Tuesday from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm brought to you by Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Downtown & Business.

Downtown workers, residents and visitors can satisfy their literary appetites in the midst of the City's lunchtime bustle when Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's mobile Reading Room returns to open a new chapter of reading, learning and fun in Market Square.

Started in 2009, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Reading Room in Market Square invites visitors to sample a few of the great programs offered at the Library. Visitors can also build their own library for as little at $1 or $2, by selecting from an assortment of paperback and hardcover books. Proceeds from the book sale support Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's dynamic programs.

Special Reading Room Programming
Visitors to the Library's Reading Room can release their inner bookworm and enjoy special book-related programming the second Tuesday of each month. Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh librarians will be on hand to lead book discussions and help select new reads. Additional programs will include "30 Books in 30 Minutes", Salon Sessions, Cook Book Celebration with a local chef demonstration and more.

Every third Tuesday of the month, the Reading Room invites visitors to explore what's new in technology at the Library. Library staff will demonstrate how to download free eBooks and audio books and provide details on the Library's free foreign language programs just in time for folks who may traveling out of the country.

If you're cleaning out your book case, don't toss those old books just drop them off at the Carnegie Library Downtown branch at 612 Smithfield Street. Next time you stop by the Reading Room you may see your neighbor leafing through one of your gently used reads!. Check out the Tuesday Reading Room blog post via the Market Square Blog.

Tuesdays: KidsPlay in the Square
10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join us for fun and educational programs for children and families with stories, crafts, snacks, and special guests. Touch a real fire truck, talk to a real live parrot, and see how cartoons come to life, all in Downtown's historic Market Square.

This free program welcomes families, schools, day cares and camps. Programs are geared toward pre-school children.

If a parent or caregiver works Downtown, it's a great chance to have some fun and then share lunch at one of the Square's many family-friendly eateries!

Thursdays: Farmers Market
Downtown's showcase Farmers Market returns to Market Square: 10 am - 2 pm

It's even bigger and better than ever! The popular Market Square Farmers Market is a great opportunity for local farmers to promote their goods while providing the Downtown community with a unique and convenient shopping experience. Each Thursday, Downtown's biggest Farmers Market attracts 7,000-10,000 office workers, residents and visitors to Market Square to enjoy local produce, gourmet treats and the many diverse restaurants and shops surrounding the Square. This season, we're bringing the region's cream of the crop to the heart of the City. As many as 30 weekly vendors will be showcased in the significantly expanded Market, along with free afternoon concerts. Produced by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP), the Market Square Farmers Market runs each Thursday through October 30, 2020, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Market-goers can expect to choose from a variety of goods such as: breads; banana loaf cakes; crunchy biscotti; fresh-cut flowers; live herb plants and teas; homemade, all-natural vegetarian dog treats; fresh vegetables and fruits; naturally dry-aged beef; organic raw milk and cheese; beeswax candles; honey; Angora goat yarn and more.

Each Thursday at 11:30 a.m., the Square will be rockin' with live acoustic performances by some of Pittsburgh's top talent!
