Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion
One of the top facilities in the America East Conference, Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion is home to the University of Hartford men's basketball team.
The 3,508-seat arena features a mixture of VIP, courtside, chairback and bleacher seating. The east end zone is reserved for students and the Hartford pep band, who generate a unique college basketball atmosphere that gives the Hawks a true homecourt advantage.
Several improvements have been made in recent years. A pair of digital video scoreboards were added in 2004, followed by a digital scoretable in 2006. Prior to the 2008-09 season, new chairback seating was added to the south side of the arena.
Hartford plays several televised games each year, and last season the Hawks hosted Boston University in a contest that was televised live on ESPNU. All home games are also streamed live over the Internet at HartfordHawks.com.
Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion was selected to host the 2010 America East Men's and Women's Basketball Championship. It marks the first time in school history that Hartford will host the men's tournament since it went to a single-site format. It also marks the first time in conference history that a men's and women's tournament will be held at one site. For four straight days in March, thousands of America East basketball fans will flock to West Hartford.
Locker Room
The men's basketball locker room is located just outside of Chase Arena. Renovated prior to the 2008-09 season, the room features 15 individual maple lockers and new carpeting. The team also has access to a state-of-the art A/V room for all video scouting and player development. The A/V room also serves as a media room on gamedays for post-game press conferences and interviews.
The Sports Center
The Sports Center encompasses 130,000 square feet of space and provides a home for intercollegiate and intramural athletics, fitness and health-related activities, and recreation and socializing for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. About 5,000 individuals alone use the Sports Center for wellness alternatives.
The Sports Center features an NCAA competition-size swimming pool; courts for volleyball, badminton, squash, and racquetball; two multi-purpose rooms for intramural and recreational use; and two fitness and weight rooms. Six lighted tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool are located behind the Sports Center, adjacent to the soccer fields.
The Sports Center also offers such amenities as a pro shop, meeting rooms, concession areas, saunas, locker rooms, and a study hall for student-athletes.
The facility serves the community throughout the year by hosting numerous regional and national activities, including trade shows, high school graduations, dinners, and many other outside athletics events. Some 25 external events take place each year and draw an estimated 90,000 people to the campus.
