Doing the right things is a reward that keeps giving

Five years in, and Providence Business News’ Best Places To Work program is the gold standard for recognizing enterprises that value employees.
The reason is simple – companies applying for the honor must have more than progressive and responsive workplace policies in place. The Best Companies Group, which conducts the competition, performs a confidential survey of each company’s employees, asking in essence, do its managers live up to the promise of those policies? Those who do are identified and ranked in order.
It’s more than a public relations coup for the winning enterprises. Whether through innovative benefit programs, flexible work arrangements, or consistent opportunities for advancement and personal development, the best companies in Rhode Island reap the rewards of an engaged work force, one that retains existing customers and finds new ones, drives profit growth even in difficult times, and keeps turnover low and innovative behavior high.
One thing I like to emphasize when we have our BPTW event is the fact that all the companies on this list are winners. Yes, this is the world of business, so some are bigger winners than others. But to make it to this list, each of these firms is doing so many things right.
And in six cases, they have been doing the right things for a number of years. That is how many companies have made our Best Places To Work in Rhode Island list each of the five years we have conducted the program. So while we are applauding all the Ocean State’s winners this year, let’s hear a special round of applause for these companies:
• Cox Communications.
• Edward Jones.
• Embrace Home Loans (formerly Advanced Financial Services).
• Hinckley Allen & Snyder LLP.
• Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co. Ltd.
• Perspectives Corporation.
