Providence Oyster Bar Restaurant Review:

Providence is home to some of the country’s best cold-water oysters; it can also lay claim to the topnotch oyster bar named, simply, Providence Oyster Bar. The roster changes daily but always includes bivalves fresh from hailing distance, including Watch Hill, Beavertail and Poppasquash Cove in Rhode Island, Long Island Sound, and Wellfleet and Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts. Other saline specialties abound as well. Try sushi, pan-fried calamari tossed with wasabi and ginger, or the more traditional hot peppers and herbs, coconut-crusted shrimp and Hawaiian white tuna. It’s all served the way the ocean’s bounty deserves to be: as pristinely as possible. The raw bar stays open late for the cocktail crowd, but come early for “Appy Hour” (3 p.m.-6:30 p.m.) for $1 littlenecks and oysters and $2 shrimp cocktail.
