Award-winning Vocalist Spider Saloff performs "The Memory of All That," a fresh version her critically acclaimed tribute to George Gershwin (1898-1937), Jan. 23rd at North Central College to launch a new cabaret series. The new series is made possible by a relationship with KMP Artists and North Central College. This new cabaret series will feature only two events in the 2011 season with Spider Saloff Jan 23rd and Beckie Menzie & Tom Michael Feb 13th. Three events for 2012 to be announced Feb 13th.

The Gershwin family chose Saloff as official vocalist to honor the centennial of his birth, and she has performed and toured concerts of all-Gershwin works since 1996. "The Memory of All that" begins at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, in North Central College's Madden Theater at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. For this series tickets are only $25.

Critics rave about Saloff's interpretations of Gershwin classics. The New York Times says she has "a wicked way with a lyric and a glint of well-controlled mischief," while the Chicago Tribune says, "slyly sophisticated, easily accessible, Saloff stands as a kind of ideal."

Saloff's "The Memory of All That" show headlined the St. Petersburg Gershwin Festival in Russia, and the Chicago jazz vocalist has performed in the Gershwin family home. The evening features her renditions of such standards as "S'Wonderful," "I've Got Rhythm," "Our Love Is Here to Stay" and "They Can't Take That Away From Me," but also some rare Gershwin melodies that members of the Gershwin family gave her access to and permission to record and perform live.

She is a five-time winner of the prestigious Manhattan Association of Cabarets Award, including one for Best Female Jazz Vocalist, and has received a special citation for her musical contributions from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, presenter of the Grammy Awards. Saloff has released seven recordings on Kopaesthetics Records. Visit spiderjazz.com to learn more about Saloff.

North Central College's 2010-2011 Sesquicentennial Fine & Performing Arts Season is supported by a generous grant from the Illinois Arts Council. USG Corporation and Navistar, Inc. are underwriting sponsors.
