Second time to Al Watan. You don't come here for the ambience or service but for the food.
Overall I would said the food is good as we tried the different number of dishes. We tried the tandoori platter, samosa and lamb and chicken briyani. It was an enjoyable meal especially with 6 of us sharing the meal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 17, 20241 check-in
Chicken korma, tandoori chicken , naan bread with sesame in it ( first for me), mango lassi ( very good and a
Lot!) and rice
Lassi was excellent
Ch korma was spicy and flavourful. But the chicken were very small pieces and on the bone. I had to keep fishing out small bones. The chicken was tender , thigh meat
Naan bread was very good as was the rice. The chicken tandoori nice flavour tender but not juicy but not bad at all.
Portions were huge !!
Service was amiable and good suggesting from the waiter.
Definitely try it out and I would come back and try other dishes.
The 4 star is because of the small
Pieces of chicken and the bones.
Ambiance very casual simpleHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 26, 2023
Amazing food, well priced and great portions.
I ordered the Friday dinner special through DoorDash it was prepared/picked up fairly quickly by the dasher. Honestly I was expecting a smaller container but was surprised to see the variety and amount of food I got (which by the way is one of the best Pakistani food I've ever had).
The Friday dinner special included: Naan, chicken Seekh kabob, Chicken tikka -thigh, chicken korma, goat korma, rice, vegetable-sabzi and daal. I also ordered a mango lassi which was pretty good. The only drawback is the forgot to include utensils in my order - so be sure to ask for that if you're placing a to-go order.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 79120101Sep 10, 2023Updated review
I came back again this past weekend and feel like it was even better this time. I ordered the chicken tikka which was perfectly seasoned along with sides of garlic naan and paratha. I was curious to try the paratha but also wanted the garlic naan so why not both?
There was so much chicken I ended up taking most of it home, and it lasted 3-4 extra meals. The workers were all very warm and hospitable and kept checking in to make sure I was enjoying my food. I even ended up coming back later that same day to take an order of seekh kabobs to a friend, and the workers seemed tickled I came back again the same day. I really did enjoy it there and they gave me a chai to drink while I waited for my takeout order. I just wish this place was closer to me!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 13, 2023Previous reviewI came here on a recommendation as the best Pakistani food in the LA area. It's not a glamorous spot but feels cozy and warm, the people working there were quick to greet me and seat me at a table. Their menu has most of the traditional Pakistani fare and I ordered the jalfrezi and garlic naan. Next time I will have to try the kebabs or chicken tikka. The naan was so fresh and soft and perfect for the jalfrezi sauce. There was a decent amount of chicken in the dish as well. They bring a side salad and chili yogurt chutney, which I wish I could've taken the bottle home with me.
The gulab jamun were warm and soft which was nice as it's surprising how wrong some places are when making these. One downside was it was a warm day and it was pretty warm inside but not like I was drenched. Parking was right in front and the inside is spacious enough, good for bigger groups and families. - 1896367Jun 6, 2023
Al Watan Restaurant is a hidden gem tucked away in a small and modest location, but don't let its size fool you! This unassuming eatery delivers an extraordinary culinary experience that will leave your taste buds begging for more. From the delectable Tandoori naan to the mouthwatering halal kebabs and curries, Al Watan Restaurant is a haven for lovers of authentic flavors.
You are greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere upon stepping inside. The staff at Al Watan are friendly, attentive, and eager to guide you through their menu, which boasts a wide array of tantalizing dishes. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries, fragrant biryanis, or succulent kebabs, this restaurant has something to satisfy every palate.
The star of the show at Al Watan is undoubtedly their Tandoori naan. Freshly baked and served piping hot, the naan breads are fluffy, slightly charred, and flavorful.
Speaking of curries, Al Watan's selection is impressive. Each dish is carefully prepared using authentic spices and quality ingredients, resulting in robust flavors that transport you straight to the heart of South Asia. The curries are well-balanced, allowing the individual spices to shine, and can be customized to suit your preferred heat level.
What sets Al Watan apart is its commitment to serving halal cuisine. For those seeking halal options, this restaurant is a true gem.
Al Watan Restaurant is a must-visit if you're searching for a genuinely authentic and flavorful culinary adventure.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 7, 2023
This is a long-standing favorite amongst me and my friends, Pakistani or not. The biryani is always a classic authentic choice but they do a great flavorful salan (curry). The prices are fair with great portions. If you get the tikka you'll have a sizzling plate with more than enough meat to share amongst several people. Their chai and mango lassi are also delicious. The staff is extremely friendly and want to help you have an authentic meal. Family friendly, too.

I was born and raised in Southern California, and I've eaten Indian Pakistani food my whole life I think I've been to almost every major restaurant in United States and Al Watan is the best Pakistani restaurant on the West Coast. These guys literally taught the other Indo Pak restaurants in Southern California how to make Naan. They are located in the ghetto but it's truly worth it.
This is a must try for out of towners and locals when you're in the area. I go out of my way to come here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 21, 2023
Local place for Mediterranean foods. We got the chicken biryani, goat curry and lamb shank soup along with garlic naan. Mango Lasi and Turkish tea. The food was bland and not much flavor as the ordered dishes should be. The garlic naan tastes similar to the store bought. The prices are decent and that's it. No frill dining.

Unfortunately, not a southern India food fan. The food was super greasy and very spicy (even the mild.).Had a variety of food such as Chicken Tikka Masala Chicken Korma Chicken with vegetables Chicken Tandoori veggie samosas plain and garlic naan etc. I went with family and they all loved it, it's just not my vibe. Im definitely a northern India food fan. The Chicken Tikka Masala was greasy and more tomato and red sauce based. The Chicken Korma was a little watery and less flavor vs more.
Service was friendly, restaurant was clean and very good for families. Parking was easy. Priced fairly. Area is a little questionable.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
