Taco Rancho is one of the restaurants in the State Farmers Market and based on the great fresh tasting foods, it's safe to say they must get most of their produce from the market, a-ok with me! I got their veggie burrito, minus the guac and refried beans, which comes with a side of your choosing. Coworkers are crazy over the tacos, although i've never had the pleasure of trying one.
I'd be weary about their fajitas though, as I wasn't very impressed with it and it tasted rather bland.
They have a large selection, seem to serve breakfast (or at least eggs), and they're all pretty friendly, but this place gets fairly crowded around lunch, so get in as soon as you can.
Chips, also, are not on the house, so if you want some, pony up some cash. All in all, i'll likely be back. Check them ou!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle B.Atlanta, GA55184Aug 6, 2011
Nice, pleasant suprise here!
Got to roam around the Farmer's Market today...found myself a bit parched. More like, I can't pass up a good, cheap taco. Get it? Got it! Good!!!
Because of the locale, you can guess the produce is fresh (but who knows, they probably get it from Sysco...the truck picks it up at stall 6 and drops it off at stall 27? wouldn't suprise me, lol).
The restaurant sits solo, at the end where the roses are sold. The older, country inn style restaurant is at the opposite end. Between market workers and the employees said "other place", biznezz is brisque enough to warrant delivery service ($10 min. w/in market only. Really.) I hear lunch is pretty busy, but I'm guessing that's during the week.
Menu is pretty standard, amongst traditional spots around town, with quesadillas, tacos and such, but they've got stewed goat, braised beef tongue and beef cheeks that rock. My taco was outstanding. And $1.75.
I'll go back for the spinach salad: mango, jicama and pumpkin seeds w/ fried queso on top. Looks fantastic. I also think beef cheek tacos may be my new Saturday treat. And a couple of those damned tomatoes for which I keep selling my soul.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - java j.DeKalb, GA02240Mar 21, 2011
I have intended to try Taco Rancho ever since reading Bob Townsend's recap just after they opened nine months back. A rare trip south of I-20 this afternoon finally provided the long awaited opportunity. This spot is a real gem hidden the back corner of the Farmer's Market in Forest Park. All three tacos (carnitas, cachete, and pescado) I sampled were top notch. The cachete version was outstanding. The frijoles charros did not disappoint. They have a great salsa bar as well. Can't wait for a return visit. Next time breakfast.

Fine tacos, and I mean damn fine. Lengua was tender and tasty, but the beef cheek taco was out of this world. What it is about meat that comes off of (out of?) a cow's head that turns people off? 3 stars because the chips were stale and the guac was most definitely made from a powder. They also have a great salsa bar. Hitting this place up on all future trips to the Farmer's Mkt

Went to pick up sod and found this new restaurant next door. My husband and I split four tacos; chicken tinga, braised beef cheek, carne asada and carnitas (pork) and fish. All were great, but the fish and beef cheek amazing. Fish taco, best since I left California and beef cheek was better than grandma's short ribs. Also, ordered Tamales for take-out and had them for dinner. Yum, just like I remember from California. Only open for breakfast and lunch, but the full menu is served 5:30-3:30 Mon - Fri and 8 - 3 Sat and Sun. Can't wait to go back and try more. Staff is super friendly and they have a great salsa bar.
