My concern with Animal Lodge is the staff. I asked to see where my dog would be sleeping and playing during her vacation. They showed me the play area and there was a small dog ( same size as his platmates) cowering and trembling in the corner. She was terrified. I pointed this out to two separate staff members and neither of them even seemed to care. They just dismissed me, both of them. I would imagine they would put her somewhere by herself to ease her stress just a little. Regardless of my gut screaming at me, I went ahead and left my pup. However, the picture of that poor terrified pup bothered me so much I cut my trip short and came to get my dog. I would never leave her there again knowing how little attention or training the staff has.

I took my Caviler King Charles Spaniel to daycare so that he could have some play time. I was planning on taking him several days a week. I am however not going to be doing that. When I picked Winston up on his first day of being there, a staff member came out and told me that it would be a few minutes. She said that they wanted to clean him up. I waited for about 2 mins to get him. He came out with his ears wet, his paws wet. He smelled of urine and feces. He was obviously upset, he was slobbering and had been slobbering. He was upset all the way home. When we arrived home Winston was so thirsty that he drank until I made him stop.

The owner is very nice and apologized. She did offer to give him a bath, however Winston smelled so bad I had already gave him one.

Since Le Chateau was booked, we took our two dogs there two days ago while we went out of town. We picked them up first thing this morning only to get them handed to us covered in feces and urine and some sort of sticky substance. The smell was so bad we had to roll the windows down on the way home. We called the nice guy who works there and he informed us they were overbooked. This is no excuse! A week's worth of their food was missing (and we were told if they "seemed hungry" they were given more food). We called his supervisor Michelle and she apologized and offered a free bath. She stated that because of one of our dog's eye problem, they were mostly confined to a kennel (?!) We will never know what happened at this place, but we are never taking our pets near there ever again. Both dogs came home and drank water for several minutes as if they hadn't drank for a long time. Our other dog is limping and they both seem extremely exhausted. A long bath later and they still reek of urine. NEVER again!!

I boarded my dogs here for 4 days. The front desk staff was super nice and helpful. Why I gave 2 stars.. I was supposed to get pictures and didn't till the last day and that's only because I called twice about it after they forgot. The main reason for the low review is as soon as I picked up my dogs, they were dying of thirst and went to the bathroom twice immediately. Seems like they weren't getting enough water and didn't go potty while they were there and that really bothers me. The front desk girls were nice but for my pups to be dehydrated and backed up is not worth the price I paid.

Horrible grooming experience!! I let them shave down my mini schnauzer since I figured there was no way they could mess something like that up and sure enough they did. They cut him on his neck so bad that it required them to superglue it shut to stop the bleeding, see the pic I posted to show how bad it was. When asked about it their response was that cuts happen...yeah a nick is understandable but this was extreme and they are not taking action against this groomer so be very cautious leaving your pup there for grooming, I would hate for them to go through what mine did. He can't even wear his collar to be walked until it fully heals and I'm doing my best to prevent it from getting infected. I was in tears knowing I left him in the care of someone that literally butchered him.

Groomer inflicted lacerations sealed with superglue to stop the bleeding.

Butters loves his days out at Animal Lodge. They always take good care of him, and all his friends are there.

I too, am disappointed to write this review.

We just moved to Amarillo from Austin, where our puppy would spend the workdays at a daycare that we loved. They were also a basically indoor-only daycare (though they had added a back patio area where the dogs could use a kiddie pool for swimming. We were so excited to see that a place like Animal Lodge existed in Amarillo, and reasonably priced to boot. Just based on the website and gallery, we had already budgeted to have him stay here during the school year when I'm at work.

After the pup's first visit at Animal Lodge, we decided to hire someone to let him out every day instead of him going to daycare. There were two main factors in this:

      (1) When I dropped him off they indicated that they always had room for daycare dogs and their was no need for a reservation. I was concerned about this, because it didn't seem to take into account possible over-crowding or under-staffing.

      (2) When I picked the boy up, it didn't seem to me that anyone was watching the dogs -- it looked like the employees were busy working other places. It was crazy loud with barking (again, that can happen). My pup was urine-soaked, and had some substance that looked like fecal matter or blood matted into part of his coat. He was a little banged up, too. I would chalk this up to rough playing and lack of bath, because that could happen. BUT, he used to go to a very well-staffed daycare every weekday, and he never looked (or smelled) like this when I picked him up. I don't think there is enough supervision and frequent enough cleanup given the amount of dogs they MIGHT take in during a day.

Summary: with more frequent cleaning throughout the day, and a lower dogs to staff ratio this place could be somewhere we'd take our dog.

I have left my dogs here twice while going out of town and TWICE one of them has gotten sick. Both of my dogs are up to date on vaccinations and still mangas to get sick here. I paid for my dogs to be groomed and bathed before I picked them up after being boarded and neither of them were groomed or bathed. I was told they only got a bath yet both dogs came back with knots in their fur that they didn't have when I dropped them off. When I spoke to the owner who scheduled the appointment she repeated back to me that they would be GROOMED and bathed with their usual cuts. But the when I picked them up she denied saying that. She didn't offer a refund or apology she was too concerned trying to prove her Point. After letting her know this had happened to me 3 other times she then offered for me to pay extra and bring them back on Saturday.
