A good place to watch Champions League games.
We came here today for the Tottenham vs Bayern game and had a nice time.
We ordered the chicken tenders with fries from the kids menu first to feed the hungry child ;) and it came out in no time. The fries were just OK since they were not crispy at all, but the chicken tenders were great!
Once their HH started, we also ordered the buffalo wings ($8 instead of $11) which were quite yummy: 8 wings with some carrot and celery sticks plus blue cheese dip.
I also ordered a Sauvignon Blanc (2 for 1 during HH) and really enjoyed both glasses. :)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 23, 2019
We enjoy going to Irish pubs up north. It is a great way to get a night cap after dinner before calling it a night. They normally have great music, some games you can play and awesome bartenders.
We came in after dinner and the place was dead. There was a bartender, someone in training and sometime after being there another lady came in for her shift. We got a round of drinks and saw the pool table. We went over to try to play it and it only accepted coins. We asked if we could add money on our tab and get some coins from the cash register, the bartender said no. [Which I don't get, like don't you also make money from people playing the pool table? So why wouldn't you just add a dollar to their tab and give them 4 quarters!?]
They had mix of music (not Irish or even European but like top 50 pop hits or something) playing and a movie playing above the pool table (with volume on movie yes). The bartender kept flirting with the girl that was to the left of us (I think she was even there with her bf). She kept getting louder and he would just refill her drink without her asking (not the drink wasn't water). She kept laughing and asking the bartender if he was trying to get her drunk or something.
The whole vibe was off for us. Then I decided to use the bathroom before heading back to the hotel. Gross... There were live flies in there, I was able to get a photo of one on the mirror but not of the ones flying around me as I tried to tinkle. There was paper on the floor, scratches into the mirror on the wall...Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 27, 2020
Stopped into Playwright Irish Pub to avoid getting soaking wet in the rain. My friend and I had never watched a rugby match and every TV has a game on do, we stayed and watched. My friend ordered an Irish Coffee, I asked for a Black & Tan. We saw people devouring their pub food. Everyone always to be having a good time. The only negative was when we had to use the rest rooms, both Men's and Women's had no toilet paper or towels.

I spent a little time here and upon first impression I thought the place was gonna get real busy. There was a live band playing while I entered at 8 PM. I chose a table to sit at. Absolutely uncomfortable and upright chairs. Waited a few for a server but never saw one. So, I went and stood at the bar for my drink while the bartender proceeds to put his finger up as a "hold on" while on the phone. Ok. I ask for one drink, can't make it. So I get a $14 vodka soda. I eventually move to a booth with my friend. He gets bartenders attention but tells my friend to order at bar from across the bar. So yeah my hospitality impression of this place is kind of not great. My friend orders a Moscow mule. It's tasty.
The band stops eventually. It's 10:30 and still very dead inside.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 26, 2017
I stopped by Playwright Irish Pub with some friends for a quick snack and a Harp lager. Playwright looks like it's been around a while as the interior décor, though dated, is rather classic sort of reeking of days gone by. But, as such lends itself nicely as being a classic Irish bar with its heavy wood and dark toned colors.
For food they have an exceptionally large and well varied menu. For appetizers everything from Buffalo Wings to Denver Lamb Ribs and for burgers their standards are 8 ounces briskets plus the Irish stands of Bangers & Mash, Shepard's Pie, Fish & Chips, etc. For my meal I simply went with a burger which I ordered rare. When served it was more medium rare than rare but of no concern to me as it was close enough and any shortcomings on that point were more than overcome by the general rich meaty taste and texture preparation of the burger.
I might also add that this is one of the few places along Washington Avenue that has clean decent restrooms and has never at least complained to me about using them even when I haven't placed a food or drink order.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - 75328563May 28, 2017Updated review
Great food, innovative menu, friendly service, nice decor, prices typical for the area.
Great "Lamb Ribs" and ice old beer.
The best part -- there was NO smoking. Yay Playwright.
I would highly recommend this place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 25, 2014Previous reviewThe food was great, and the beer was the coldest in town -- BUT right after they set down my plate, they set down a dirty ashtray right near my plate. When I complained the bartender told me that they allowed smoking. When I asked if he knew that this was against FL State Law for places that sell food, the bartender replied with "I'm sure you are going to tell me." His attitude was very rude.
As I left, the bouncer told me that they sometimes do not permit smoking during the day, but at night they permit it.
I checked, and this clearly violates the law. I went to the Playwright because I regard it as a cut above the local dives, but they proved me wrong. Goodbye forever and please expect to hear more about your disregard of the smoking law, passed by a 71% majority at the polls.
FYI, I am not blaming the employees who are merely trying to make a living, but I am hoping the owner will re-evaluate the policy, and that the State regulators will start enforcing the law. - KJ J.Miami, FL665139586Jan 23, 2018
Yes this is a dive and Irish bar but is probably the best happy hour in South Beach price wise. Portions aren't small and price is $4-5. The top 3 appetizers my opinion are the buffalo wings, potato skins, and spring rolls.
Pitchers of beer $12-18, lots of seating, huge bar. 18% Gratuity included (South Beach standard). There is a parking lot behind the bar and street parking and this place is good for large groups. Pool table inside, great place to watch a soccer game (that's when it's most packed).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1176127Feb 8, 2017
A great pub that all locals do/should keep in their regular "rotation".
Proper Irish décor, good pitcher and happy hour specials, great sports viewing (esp. soccer i.e. 'football') and good bar food.
They have a wide beer selection (both bottle and on tap) although I wouldn't mind a few more browns I think I'm a small minority there.
I love their Chicken Tenders and Shepard's Pie; the Southwest Chicken Spring Rolls not so much, not because they aren't good but because they aren't the classic southwest rolls.
The place is much bigger on the inside than it appears from the street, and when it starts getting a little too crowded they are very quick to open up an entire second half of the bar.
Shout out to Bridget who ALWAYS takes great care of us!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
