Virginia Beach is a large coastal area in the state which draws many beach goers and tourists throughout the year. While the area is filled with restaurants, movie theaters and bars, there are a number of activities in Virginia Beach that are unique and specific to the area, which are excellent for groups of single people, or people on dates.

Ocean Tours

There are several companies in Virginia beach which specialize in providing large boat tours of the coast. Tours include dolphin and whale watching, sunset cruises and glass bottom boat cruises. Many ships have snack and beverage concessions on board and can hold over 50 people. Rudee tours has four different types of tours, including a Champagne At Sunset Tour, and Great White Water Sports has tours and rents out jet skis as well. Tour guides provide stories and history on the region and aquatic life a allow passengers to photograph or video tape on board. Many tour boats can be rented out for private parties and events. Singles can get to know each other while sipping Champagne and watching the dolphins or the sunset.

Museums

Virginia Beach has several museums and cultural centers in the area which are open throughout the year. Museums area great activity for singles, as they are inexpensive and allow people the experience of seeing art up-close, together. The Old Coast Guard Station Museum which preserves and showcases artifacts and heritage from the coastline communities and maritime heritage. The museum has several rotating galleries and two permanent galleries, one which presents the history of the United States Coast Guard and another that depicts history and artifacts from many of the coastlines famous shipwrecks. Admission is free.

The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia displays collections of famous coastal artists as well as rising stars in the contemporary art world. Guided tours are also available and there is a children's wing and gift shop on site. Admission is by donation.

The Aquarium

The Virginia Aquarium is Virginia Beach is an extensive aquatic life facility open to the public throughout the year. There are several thousand varieties of marine life at the facility, including native fish and a number large and rare fish and sharks. There are also many hands-on exhibits, as well as an outdoor aviary, nature walking trail, and marshlands. The aquarium also has a large IMAX theater which shows a rotating group of nature and exploration documentaries, as well as the latest Hollywood films.

Amusement and Waterparks

Amusement parks make good singles activities because you can make connections by going on wild rides together and learn about others while waiting in line. Virginia Beach has a large waterpark in the area, known as Ocean Breeze Waterpark, with dozens of rides, slides and pools. Guests can also raft through the park on an inner tube, enjoy beverages in a hot tub bar, swim in the wave pool or relax in the sun on the many lounge areas. The Virginia Beach Amusement Park is a classic, boardwalk-style theme park with many carnival games, rides and live entertainment. There is no cost for admission into the amusement park but rides, games and food cost several dollars each.

Beach Activities

The coastline of Virginia Beach stretches for over 10 miles and has many fun activities during the day or night. There are dozens of beach volleyball courts, surf and boogie board rentals, exercise facilities and playgrounds. There is an annual sand castle contest at the end of every August. There are several fishing piers along the coast which allow fly fishing during the day and nighttime.
