THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Zuma Sushi & Sake Bar Restaurant Review:
Sushi, saké and sports bar blend appealingly at Zuma. The bento box is the best deal; at dinner, it proposes a choice from about a half dozen categories for $17. We like the grilled mackerel, quite fresh tasting and not cooked a second too long. Seaweed salad offers the appropriate crunch, anointed with sesame oil and seeds. Korean dishes include a very respectable galbi. Scallop carpaccio swam in a bit too much ponzu sauce, but was sweet and flavorful. The restaurant loses points for its pink pickled ginger, rather than presenting it in its unvarnished natural color, but not for the potato salad, flecked with green apple and carrot. Another nice touch: the silver metal chopsticks. Dessert is limited to fruit or green tea ice creams. Chilled saké comes only in large quantities, so we go for either beer or green tea. Service is uninterrupted from the restaurant’s opening until its close, making late lunch, a snack or early dinner all possibilities. Also located at 701 Highland Ave. NE, Old Fourth Ward, 404-522-2872.
