Brookings Exploration Center

Open year-round, the Brookings Exploration Center offers visitors of all ages interactive, multimedia opportunities to learn about plants, the places they grow, how people rely on them and the importance of protecting them. 

Get an up-close look at what's living in soil, create a symphony with the sounds of nature, retreat to the Family Tree Area and read a book or take part in hands-on activities in our new maker space.

Pick up a Garden on the Go Pack and explore the garden in a new way.

PlantLab

Designed as an energizing, creative hub for plant science, investigative learning, critical thinking and discovery, the 1,100-square foot PlantLab offers a year-round experiential learning space for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to:

  • Engage in meantingful, hands-on experiences

  • Connect with the Garden's plant science mission in new and meaningful ways

  • Discover experiences you can recreate in your own classroom, home and community 

  • Gain inspiration and ideas for increasing plants and biodiversity in the greater St. Louis region

  • Advance e-ticket purchase or reservations recommended. Walk-up tickets are available and can be acquired at the ticket counter on the day of your visit during operating hours. Card payments ONLY. 
  • Entry anytime between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Garden closes at 5 p.m. Last entry is at 4:30 p.m.
  • Early Morning Walking Hours and Zoo-Museum District (ZMD) Resident Free Hours. Must show proof of membership or St. Louis City and County residency. Wednesdays and Saturdays (walking hours from 7–9 a.m.) Free St. Louis City and County resident admission from 7 a.m.–noon. Includes Children's Garden on Saturdays only.  
  • ZMD free tickets are available onsite for walk-ups only and cannot be reserved online in advance.  ZMD resident free admission is subject to availability. Free and early morning hours do not apply on holiday or event weekends, including Labor Day weekend.

Show-Me Backpacks

Need some inspiration for exploring the great outdoors? Our new Show-Me Backpacks are filled with activities and supplies that encourage nature exploration and discovery! They include all you need to explore! Inspired by years of providing experimental learning programs for visitors, our Interpretation staff developed the Show-Me Backpacks to help you kids engage with nature and enrich your outdoor adventures

Packs are designed for one child. Recommended ages 6 to 10 years old.
