I would probably give it a higher review if the wait for the food wasn't that long. We literally waited over 50 mins for our items when they told us 25-30 mins. Every time I followed up, they said it'll be ready in 5 mins.

They don't have indoor dinning. They have 3 tables outside for outdoor dinning, but they package all their food to go.

When we got our food, the grits were partially cold. The waffle was soggy and not crunchy. The only thing good / fresh was the 2 pieces of fried chicken.

Its about time for this to shut down already. The chicken and waffles were the best, but slowly fell off or maybe different cooks every time I got em. But the last 2 times been a flop. Cant never pick up the phone, they dont have good customer service, they always look stressed out when a new customer comes in as if they know they runnin behind and its crunch so it shows on their face. Apparently whoever Auntie April is need a better team.

I'm going to write an honest review, even though it pains me to give Auntie April's a low rating. I had been aching to try this restaurant as it was featured on Eater's list of best breakfast joints in the city. However, everything seemed to go wrong when I checked this place out.

When I write reviews, I hardly take service into consideration because I understand that not all restaurants have the resources to make perfect accommodations for their customers. Especially in SF, where rent is high and the eaters are picky, restaurants must do whatever they can to stay afloat. In my eyes, as long as the food is great, that's all that matters. Now, I'm REALLY going to look past the fact that there were only 2 outside tables and 3 ripped chairs with no umbrella to protect us from the beaming summer sun. With us being the only customers there besides another group of 2, it took a while for our food to come out. Now this in no way counts against my review of them, I'm just letting you all know in case you want to eat there. In my opinion, it's probably better just to do take-out since there is no inside seating.

After all the anticipation and struggle, our fried chicken and cinnamon waffle, fried tenders and plain waffle, shrimp and fries, and mac & cheese came out steaming hot. All I'm gonna say is this: I'm more of a fan of Brenda's and Lois the Pie Queen. I'm sorry to say but their waffles were bone dry and their shrimp and mac & cheese left much to be desired. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and blame it all on COVID pressures, but in the meantime, I didn't really understand the hype surrounding this restaurant. I will have to come back after things ease up to give it another try!

      Everything is delicious.
I wasn't expecting a 25 min wait for lunch, but it was well worth it. Everything is made to order and couldn't be any tastier and the waiter gave us a heads up.
I had the chicken wings, collard greens, rice and gravy w corn bread. My friend had the fried catfish- I stole a bite and it was fresh, moist and fried to perfection.
Next time I'll have to try the red velvet waffle.

Fried chicken wings and thigh platter. Yummmmmm

AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! The food tasted just like home! The wait was kinda long but once I took a bite, the wait time wasn't even an issue. Greatness takes time!

In my quest to support local businesses, I came out to Auntie April's for takeout. Called in my order and came by 20 minutes later to get it. What I got:

Fried Chicken - really solid. Most of the flavor came from the skin and it was nicely cooked. I didn't find anything wrong with it, but also nothing that was very compelling.
Red velvet waffle - I had to pay a little extra for the red velvet. Theirs is so good and is one of the things they're known for!
Shrimp and grits - if nothing else, get this. It was so good and they gave me a ton of shrimp. Do you ever dig around your grits and find even more shrimp? Yeah, this was it. After mixing the shrimp with grits, it was like a wonderful treasure hunt where I just kept finding more shrimp!
Collared greens - someone put their foot in this. So. Damn. Good.

It was really easy to come by and pick up the food. There's easy parking on Third and they had my order ready to go. It was a matter of paying and grabbing the food.

This food was HORRIBLE!! Aprils's famous shrimp and grits were FISHY AS HELL, the shrimps were small and feces was in the shrimps, the greens needed more seasoning, we didn't get our corn bread with our meals, they BURNED my waffle on one side but put the butter on the other side to hide it. The chicken was 1/2 decent and my daughter didn't get her yams!! I paid $88 for SOME DAMN SLOP!!! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS DAMN PLACE

The fried chicken here is very tasty and has super crunchy skin. I'm a huge fan of being able to choose wings only (with the tips) since that's my favorite part

I also love that you can choose a cinnamon waffle instead of regular and it's waaay better

The only thing that was negative was waiting soooo long for our food - got it about 40 min after ordering. I guess that just means more love goes into it :)

Came her after Sunday church service for the post Gospel replenishment and felt like my soul wanted some soul food.

I had the shrimp and grits. It was shrimp and grits. I guess it's my fault for ordering shrimp and grits at s chicken and waffles joint. The grits weren't that hot and the amount of shrimp in the dish didn't justify the price.

My wife's chicken and waffles were pretty solid. The chicken was pretty fresh and hot.

I think the slow service was a bit confusing as the place was pretty empty, kind of like my cup of water during my entire meal.

Pro tip: if the restaurant has chicken and waffles in the name, order the chicken and waffles.
