It's a fun place for open ice skating. They have a dj in the middle of the ice rink. It gets pretty crowded but the kids don't seem to mind. They have workers that are good skaters helping with the fun games, keeping the flow going, and even giving pointers and advice to some of the newer skaters.

They have multilevel bench seating which is great for spectators.

I personally can't recommend their Learn To Skate classes though. The class sizes in the lower levels are too big. My daughter barely got to skate in the short 30 min sessions and ended up not enjoying. She spent half the time waiting for her turn to skate.

Very straightforward and simple process to pay for public skate and get your rentals! There's lots of indoor space to sit down and leave your items, and I did not feel worried about losing my belongings. The skates are sturdy and were laced. The music was fun and they had lots of games/dances in the center of the rink.

Overrated place. Too crowded for public skating. Took my kids there yesterday. My daughter is 4. An adult woman stepped on her middle finger with ice skating shoes and she didn't even say sorry she just left. We had to rush to emergency room to see if her finger bone is broken. I know incident is incident but we didn't enjoy our time there so at least refund us the tickets money but they didn't. Staff is slow to help. They wanted me to write an incident paper and waiver before giving my daughter at least some first aid antiseptic. My daughter was crying asking if she can have bandages but they don't want to because they are afraid if her finger bone is broken. I understand their concerns because the staff didn't want to be accountable for anything but still this makes me upset and will never come back again.

      Updated review

I wanted to update this review since I've been here multiple times now and all week from 1-3 is public skate session and honestly I was sooo impressed. In the middle of the I've you have staff dancing with kids and parents of all ages just having fun and making sure you are having fun. If you don't know how to skate they will help you and guide you through the ice till you get the hang of it. Great place and even better staff having everything as organized as they do is just WOW.

I would love to come and enjoy a public skate session, but every time that I come, it's not available. This is my second time coming, at the time that it says it's open to the public, but have been denied

The San Diego Ice Arena in Mira Mesa does not get a lot of attention. It used to be pretty popular when I was younger, but it's still a great activity during the hot summer days.

There's plenty of lessons, hockey leagues and free skate time going on. Need too check the schedule for each.

Might feel rustic as it's been here for so long, but skates are still well maintained. People are reasonable, staff is friendly, music is a great addition and overall - it's fun!

Great times, even if I did catch a big fall.

The facility is in an interesting location, positioned behind a residential development. But it is close to the freeway, so relatively easy access. It is home to one sheet of ice. There is a snack bar that serves alcohol. They open early and close late to get as much ice time for the public as possible. Support the place and keep hockey alive and well in the area.

Great place and my kids love to come here for the public skating sessions. But today a man who called himself a manager forced me out of the waiting box because I wasn't wearing the skates. The presence of the parents is allowed during public sessions on Saturday and Sunday but today was Tuesday because of the summer break. That person made me leave my 3 years old son unattended in that box while he was resting and my 9 years old daughter had to help him use the steps and put on a helmet and mittens and get back to the ice. All that was done for SAFETY!
      Unbelievable!!!
