Since taking over as head coach in 1999, Singer has proven to be one of the sport’s elite coaches in Canada, coaching Western to a CIS National Championship in 2002, a silver medal finish at CIS Nationals in 2009, and guided the team to Queen’s Cup provincial titles in 2005 and 2009.

Singer has been named the OUA Coach of the Year seven times during his tenure as head coach (1999-00, 2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2005-06, 2010-11, 2011-12). He was also named the CIS Coach of the Year in the 2001-02 season. Added to those feats is the seven straight OUA Far West regular season titles Singer guided the team to in his first seven years as head coach of the Mustangs.

The native of Stratford, Ontario first joined the Mustangs’ hockey program in 1991 as an assistant coach for Barry Martinelli while completing his Master of Arts in Kinesiology (Coaching) degree at Western. After the 1993 season, Singer travelled to Norway where he coached in the Norwegian Elite Series from 1994-1997 with Trondheim and Fredrikstad.

Following a successful campaign in Europe, Singer returned to Western for a second stint as an assistant to Martinelli. In the 1998-99 season, Singer was promoted to the position of associate head coach and was then named head coach of the Western Mustangs for the 1999-2000 season. Singer has also coached Junior B hockey with the London Diamonds and Canada’s entry at the World University Games in 2005 in Innsbruck, Austria.

In late 2009, Singer was named head coach of the Canadian World University Games team for the 2011 games in Turkey.

Singer lives in Ilderton with his wife Trish, daughter Paige and son Owen.
