The Gravity Vault - Upper Saddle River

Had another great staff lead belay session this time with Mody. I bring my nine-year-old daughter with me and he's able to find routes and tips and encouragement that match both of our skill levels. Always a good experience at this gym.

We had a group of 7 and the lady checking us in was great. Very direct and patient with us checking in and paying. I had to get a belay check since it s been a few years since I was last here. The girl that did my check up was SO HELPFUL. Honestly, with knowing that someone else's life is literally in my hands I really appreciated her coming up to me and giving me tips on being better.
I've been coming to this place for the last 15 years.. it's always clean, well kept & everyone is enjoying themselves.

I am a 59 year old woman in reasonably good condition. They staff was very helpful. It was difficult, but I would do it again..

One thing to note is that this gym sets it's courses by tape color, NOT by hold color. If you climb at a gym were a route is set using all the same color holds, it will take some getting used to. Also, a lot of the routes overlap AND use the same holds. So, one hold can have 3-4 different colored tape on it. There were times, while climbing, that it was hard to see which holds you could put your feet on because of the placement of the tape. The tape wasn't always visible from above the hold. This makes climbing a route a lot more complicated (and honestly, really annoying).

If you are used to climbing at a gym that sets routes with colored tape, then you will be fine and like it here. If you are used to color coded holds, then it may be frustrating.

The building itself isn't very tall so the climbing walls are only moderate height. The walls go right up to the ceiling. There are windows in the ceiling but they are yellowish glass which don't let any light in. This all combines to make the space feel cramped. Even though there are actually a lot of top rope routes, and 2 bouldering walls, the space feels small. I am guessing that if the windows were swapped out it would then brighten up the space and make it feel larger.

So much to do in terms of building up skill levels and attempting new challenges. The staff are very helpful, and there's room for everyone to social distance and yet be close enough to monitor. It's an extremely challenging workout!

Used our groupon for a belay certification and got to climb for a day! Didn't realize how fun this would be and it's definitely a killer workout. My lats were crying by the end of this, so I managed to have fun and get back day out of the way. Clean place, super friendly staff. Shoes and all the gear included!

Good climbs, good times, no mimes? great staff, good laughs, having a blast. 10/10, give that employee Chelsea a raise !!

Had a family staff belay today with Gabe. His excitement about climbing was infectious. We love coming here and exercising our bodies and our minds together. Such a fun family activity. Thanks Gabe!!!
