Q:
Is turquoise closed for good? I've been trying to go for over a month and no one answered the phone plus there are signs on the window indicating they're renovating!
A:
I think they are locked out and another restaurant is going in. Too bad!

This is a frequent place I enjoy when I'm in the area. It has changed ownership over the years but the food has maintained the same great taste. The simple Doner plates are always filling and the seasoning on the beef and lamb kabob is just right along side the basmati rice, grilled vegetables, and picked red cabbage.
The Turkish tea is strong and aromatic, great pick you up. The dolma is my favorite starter along with the complimentary bread.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Rebecca E.North Central, San Antonio, TX55185558Aug 17, 2018
We decided to come to turquoise grill because we have always seen the sign but never been inside. The decor is dated but the establishment it clean.
The food: chef special appetizer plate included 7 different options. AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE. We left the whole plate practically untouched. ( the server felt bad and took it off the bill)
We both got the chicken doner kebab which was pretty good and nicely portioned. The onions could have been cooked a little more.
The hostess/server was very polite and suggested we try the chef special appetizer plate.
Overall stay away from appetizers and stick to the meat plates.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 16, 2017
Food is very good, but pricey for the quantity you get. They serve fresh baked bread, but do not offer dip or sauce to that. So it was kind of odd. Chicken kebab is the best, flavorful and soft. Kofte one was good, has lots of spices but not juicy enough. I liked mixed grill plate, you get variety of meats served on a rice with red cabbage. Lamb kebab had not a pleasant smell, so I just skipped this one. Doner meat was soft and tasty. Food is good and fresh. Service was ok. I took one star for temperature of food. I wish they could serve it hotter and not lukewarm. Plus it would be a concern for food safety.

I had the Meze platter for one and the lamb kofte kebabs delivered and other than the appetizers being a little shaken up during the drive to me, everything was pretty perfect. The first memorable thing was the bread actually. I'm not even a huge bread lover but theirs was so incredibly soft, chewy and huge! And once you start dipping that hearty piece of carb into their cold apps, it's like heaven! Another memorable item was the lamb kebabs, which were so flavorful, perfectly seasoned and moist. This is something I would get again. Overall, everything tasted fresh and healthy. Nothing was greasy or felt heavy. No food regrets here. I would love to dine in soon to see what's really up.

This place has fantastic looking food and quite good tasting. I had the Chicken Adana Kebab plate and it was really good. They first bring out a load of seeded warm bread with a spicy oil to dip complimentary with your meal. I only had one square of it because I get full fast then came my meal and boy was it really good. The different colors made it look so pretty and the taste was enjoyable. There are so many options to try. I love it! I'll be coming back for more and I see myself as a regular at this place.

Do not let the outside of this restaurant fool you! Located in a strip center between a pawn shop and gun store, it may make you ask to yourself, "should I eat here?" Well the answer is YES!
With a warm and welcoming interior, their menu selection has just the right amount of items to choose from. I ordered a meat plate for two that contained various meats served with rice and vegetables. Not only were they generous with the amount of food, it was hands down delicious!
Turquoise Grill is now one of my favorite Mediterranean restaurants in San Antonio. I can't wait to eat here again,Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2017
Tucked away next to a gun shop, you would not think this restaurant would be as good as it is. We were seated quickly and the server took our drink order. He brought out some bread to start the feast and it was delicious. They have an oil at the table which adds a great touch to the bread experience. We ordered a bunch of appetizers including calamari and everything was so good. I'm not very experimental with food but I'm glad I tried it. I ordered the Kofte sandwich and it was very good. The bread was the kind we got at the beginning which was awesome. Since I'm a picky eater, I struggle when restaurants put things on meals without sharing it on the menu. My sandwich came with lettuce and tomato and that was disappointing since it wasn't on the menu. My friends got an eggplant dish as well as a salad and they were quite content. We all had leftovers and felt satisfied upon leaving.

The experience of good food and drink can be memorable. But great food and drink can be a transcendental experience, taking us to places we may never see in our lives. Enter, The Turquoise Grill. Although this place is a bit hidden, nestled along the access road before you get to the Wonderland of the Americas please seek this place out. You will not be disappointed.
Living in the city my whole life there are only two types of food you can eat here: Tex-Mex and oh...Tex-Mex. And the thought of trying new foods besides tacos can sometimes proves to be a daunting idea. However, coming to the Turquoise Grill it's kinda cool being taken out of ones comfort zone and all my fears quickly dissipate.
When you come to this place it is like you are transported to another place in time, to another country. The music, smells and atmosphere are so different and unique it felt like I was in some oasis in the desert. On this day it was the dinner crowd was arriving, presumably from work, so it was getting packed. But the tables are so spread out it creates this ease. You can have a conversation with another person and it will not infringe on your neighbor's space.
Another great thing about this place is the service waiter who served us on this night was beyond excellent. He was totally friendly and attentive. In addition he brought all our items out as soon as they were ordered. I ordered the Sigara Boregi, as an appetizer. It was four pieces of fried dough stuffed with cheese. These little fellas were the shizzo! I have never tasted anything like that in my life, ever!
For the main course I had the Doner Kebab, which is pieces of shanked beef and lamb on top rice and vegetables. It is also accompanied with pita bread. The end result is a joyful marriage of taste and spices on your palette. Yummy times ten!!! Although, for people who think that The Panda Express is high-end dining this place may seem pricey to you. My advise to you is to wait until they have a special offer on groupon, as they have this promotion often to defray any costs. In addition the price you pay for your food is very much warranted, as they serve you a healthy portion. In my case there was ample food left enough for dinner the next day.
Great food, service and experience equals happiness. The Turquoise Grill surpasses all of this. Like other Yelpers who have written great comments about this restaurant this is a hidden gem in a sea of Tex-Mex food. If you want to impress your lady, or you need to find a place to celebrate your anniversary, this is the place for you. Sure I love my tacos but with a place like this I feel it's okay to stray from them, even for just a little bit.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Naeem B.San Antonio, TX55170282Jun 11, 2017
Turquoise Grill was my first introduction to Turkish food and it sure was a fantastic one! Having never had Turkish food before, I decided to sample a few of the meats by ordering the mixed grill the first time I came. Considering that I've yet to order anything else upon subsequent visits, I think it's safe to say that I can't choose a favorite among the meats. While grilled lamb, chicken, and beef may sound pretty simple, they are each packed with a (pleasantly) surprising amount of flavor that makes them stand out.
Although I have nothing to compare Turquoise Grill to in terms of Turkish food, I can say with certainty that it is delicious and one of the better Mediterranean options in San Antonio. I will certainly work it into my regular rotation of restaurants when eating out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ernest Z.San Antonio, TX84189Aug 8, 2018Updated review
It's with great disappointment I have to give the Turquoise Grill a zero. Wife and I went there recently or our anniversary and we both received a gift from there we will never forget.
Food poisoning!
Wife started feeling sick the next day, me a few more days later. She got over it, but I ended up in the hospital for a few days subsisting on a diet of morphine and antibiotics.
I was always a fan of the Lamb shank but this time it was made different and the foods were overly spicy.
To be fair, I believe it was the rice pudding as my wife had a few spoonfuls and I ate the rest.
I should have stuck with my baklava.
As it turns out, the original owner is no longer there so I'll be eating elsewhere.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 12, 2018Previous reviewIt's with great disappointment I have to give the Turquoise Grill a zero.
