I gave her 5 stars because of the questions she asked and her frankness. I like that while some people may feel uncomfortable with that.
My story: I felt the worse I've ever felt and had seen 5 other doctors over months. Finally I went here.
What I got was a very very detailed blood test, with a clear Action plan afterwards. I followed that action plan and it honestly has changed my life. I feel amazing. The action plan included certain foods, which is unusual because most doctors just prescribe you something.
She may not be for everyone, because she is direct and non emotional. But if you want an action plan detailed out based on objective data from an extensive blood test, she is perfect.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - C S.Austin, TX296522Jun 22, 2012
A superior doctor's experience
I've been with Dr. Liesa Harte for over a year now and are very pleased with both her and her staff. I have always been treated courteously and personally.
Perhaps more importantly, Dr. Harte is clearly quite intelligent / sharp and quickly picks up on important nuances that could potentially save lives. This gives me a great deal of confidence in her skills.
In the previous office, the quarters were indeed cramped, and yet she and her staff still provided the best doctor's experience I've ever had. The new quarters are nice and spacious and the excellence continues.
Dr. Harte listens (which is really important to me--because I'm often full of theories & suppositions) and will even suggest natural treatments if available (and effective). Dorothy, her assistant and nurse is just amazing and as kind as can be.
So overall, Observant, intelligent, interested, attentive, kind and courteous and they all add up to a superior experience, even for one who dreads going to the doctor!
Highly recommended!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you so much for the compliments! I love helping my patients get healthy. I appreciate all feedback. I value you as patients so much!

DR Harte came highly recommended from a friend who is a Naturpathic Doctor.
I find most MDs to be arrogant and close minded. DR Harte on the other hand is very knowledgeable in a holistic approach and really seemed to care.
What a great resource for our family!
I would like to make a comment on some of the negative reviews. Having spent 20 years as a natural health practitioner myself, I know that DR Harte deals with many people in desperate situations. Often there are underlying emotional issues that precede poor health. Although I consider myself patient, I don't think I could be as consistently gracious as DR Harte.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Matthew B.Austin, TX11May 8, 2014
Dr.Harte is as sweet and caring as her name implies. She was highly recommended by friends and family that had went through her care before and I could not have asked for a better doctor. The office has a GREAT staff that are fun loving and welcoming, but that is just the start of it.
Functional medicine, nutrition infusions, medical weight loss is Dr.Harte's thing! If being healthy is just a hobby and not a lifestyle, then Dr.Harte can for sure take you to the next level. I also had my allergy testing done and if you live in Austin, you know a thing or two about allergies.
Don't suffer another minute and give Dr.Harte a chance to change your life. I highly recommend her!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Marika P.Grants Pass, OR03Mar 29, 2019
This lady put me on 290 mgs of xanax a month, which in and of it's self should be criminal. When I was still struggling from mental illness and anxiety three months later she told me "I think you need to go to rehab" and completely cut me off. I am not exaggerating one bit. It completely detailed my life. I was easily in seizure withdrawal territory. I hope her practice is closed down because someone finally got around to suing them.

I had such high hopes when I contact Dr. Harte. Traditional Western Medicine has been unsuccessful at helping me with my issues, so the approach she describes as her practice sounded exactly like what I needed. Unfortunately, I've ended up with a nightmare instead.
I first went to see Dr. Harte on 5/22/2014. I spent thousands of dollars and had about a dozen vials of blood taken for various tests, including an "All Inclusive Allergy" test. After weeks of no follow-up, I started reaching out to her office asking when I should have a follow-up visit for my results. I left voice mail messages. I sent emails. I even stopped by the office. Unfortunately, no one ever responded to my attempts to contact her.
I finally received a call from someone in her office saying something had happened to my "All Inclusive Allergy" test, so I needed to come by the office again to redo everything. So I did, but there was no phlebotomist at the office to take my blood. I was told to try again and I did. Including my initial appointment, I went by the office 4 or 5 times and yet, I still never had the expensive "All Inclusive Allergy" testing done, nor have I received ANY results from the thousands of dollars worth of other tests that were run through my insurance.
I continued to call and call until finally on September 10 (yes from May until September), I actually got Jessica to answer the phone. Unfortunately, she was just temporary help and despite saying she would give my message to Dr. Harte, I never heard back. I left another message on 9/17/2014 asking for my test results and no response. I left another message on 9/24/2014 asking for my test results and I received a call back from Paula. She promised to have David contact me to coordinate getting me my results. 9/25/2014 David called and said he would send me my results. We exchanged emails that same day with my contact information but here we are 11/16/2014 and I STILL HAVE NO RESULTS!!!!! So much for HIPPA.
I have also requested a refund of the money I paid for the "All Inclusive Allergy" testing and Dr. Harte is refusing. Apparently taking her patient's money is more important to her than taking care of her patients. The only offer I've received is to have her new lab tech meet me at a location of my choosing to redraw all the blood and a promise that THIS TIME I'll get results. I explained that I have no interest in now working with a doctor who has shown no interest in following up with me when she's had test results for me since May.
I'm extremely disappointed in my experience and strongly discourage anyone from wasting their time with Dr. Harte. You will spend a lot of money and if your experience is anything like mine, you'll get nothing for the money you spent.Helpful 17Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - C A.Austin, TX1476121Oct 2, 2012
I can't understand why a secretary would refuse to answer phone calls any hour and day of the week, won't return emails, or return (like 30) voicemails. After a week of constantly calling, I was contacted by an entirely different doctor practicing in the same office addressing my "rude" desperate attempts at getting ahold of a real person. This totally baffled me. Sorry for that one.
If you like open communication regarding your health, don't come here.
If you like calling the same number over and over multiple times a day multiple times a week with zero feedback, go ahead and give it your best shot.
It's a shame because Dr. Armstrong is such a warm and informative doctor.
Also, the medical supplies storage/bathroom...really?
ADDED:
Sorry, maybe you conveniently ignored the part where I said 30 calls over the course of a week, but really it was about a week and a half of calling about three-six times a day, but that's besides the point. I had recently relocated out of the city and misplaced my medication and was experiencing negative side effects from being off the medication, which I had assumed qualified as a medical emergency or at the very least something my doctor would care enough about to return my calls.
I was simply calling to request a refill, not medical advice. And the nerve for you, someone who has no information regarding the situation, to accuse me of harassment?
I wish someone would have informed me that in order to speak to anyone regarding anything at all, you have to book an appointment...in person? Alright.
Good luck with your practice!Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Christina,
I am still confused by your remarks. I think maybe what you are suggesting is that you should be seen for free. It would be great if great medical care could be provided by phone and for free, but that is just not the case. Whether calling 30 times or 3 to 6 times a day, it doesn't change the fact that we insist on practicing only the highest quality care. No amount of harassment will change our standards.
I wish you the best of health!
Hi there Christina A.! I'm confused by your remarks. Most people don't leave 30 messages in one day, so maybe that was what was called out as being rude!
It is our policy not to practice medicine by phone. We prefer to actually see our patients, so unfortunately no matter how many times you call, we still aren't going to lower our standard of care. I recommend you make an appointment and come in so you can have a professional consultation and discussion of your health - face-to-face.
We have hired a customer care team to help answer our phones recently since so many new patients are finding us. Perhaps you called during the transition period. I like talking to humans, too, so that is why we have added the extra phone support.
I suggest you have a look at our Policies page on our website.
As for the bathroom, it is pretty standard for a doctor's office to have supplies to collect urine specimens in the office bathroom! That one is kind of funny.
To your health!

Update:
It must have been a long conference because I called over a period of at least two weeks. I don't recall you trying to contact us during that period or since.
Yes, we do know that policies have many variations. Both my wife and I work in insurance. I retired from the Texas Department of Insurance, including two years managing the health insurance complaints staff. The state of Texas Health Select plan is a very common one in Austin.
Your dismissal of the EOB is just lame. We only had to pay a small amount because we challenged the bill (with no help at all from your office). Someone without the knowledge or experience of dealing with insurance companies and health providers would have never been able to negotiate the fee as we did. Most folks would have been stuck with a $3,000 bill and turned over to a collection agency if they refused to pay it.
If it's so easy, why didn't your staff help us instead of saying it's our problem? All they did was call the lab and have them call us. If you think Chris is one of the nicest guys you will ever want to meet, that explains a lot.
Thank you for your time.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Unfortunately I was out of town at a medical conference when you called! Another unfortunate is that the Explanation of Benefits look like a bill, but are absolutely not a bill. I don't know where the labs come up with these inflated amounts they charge, but apparently it is a traditional dance the labs and insurance companies have with each other.
In the end, like you said, you only had a small amount to pay. That was all you were ever supposed to pay. The EOBs just look alarming.
Chris is amazing and has done so much to help me take my practice to a whole new level of service that we are able to deliver to patients. He is very direct, and I guess you interpreted that as him being rude. Again, sorry for that, too, but Chris is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.
Did you know that each insurance company may have hundreds of actual policy variations? Crazy, right? So, it is true, we absolutely cannot be responsible for figuring out what your particular policy covers. It is very easy for you to call your insurance company and ask them. Because of your experience, I have now starting emailing patients days in advance of their first appointment to explain that they should call their insurance company. That should help avoid misunderstandings in the future. Thanks for the feedback!
To your health!

www.drliesa.comJun 4, 2012Previous reviewMy wife was referred to Dr. Harte by a friend. We are on the TX state employee/ retiree BC/BS health plan; a common one here in Austin. After making sure that the change to Dr. Harte as her primary care physician was in place, she went for her initial consultation. Blood for tests was drawn.
A few weeks later we received an explanation of benefits from BC/BS for over $3,994 in lab work. We called BC/BS. Apparently, Dr. Harte's office sent some of the blood samples to an out-of-network laboratory in Ohio. The EOB said we may owe the lab over $3,400 as most tests were denied or reimbursed at a very low rate. With it was a check for $513 as the amount BC/BS would pay. A smaller number of tests totaling $1,525 were sent to an in-network lab, leaving us only $25 to pay.
Alarmed, we called Dr. Harte's office to ask why those 35 tests were sent to an out-of-network lab and why my wife not informed, even though their website FAQ says, "Costs of all testing will be reviewed with you by our staff before labs are drawn." This did not happen. The only discussion about payment for tests was about allergy testing, which my wife was told would be covered and it was.
Frankly, we were never given an explanation. No one would tell us why they were sent out of network, only that they are not responsible for knowing what our benefits are. When I asked Dorothy to call the lab and find out if anything could be done, she said she would and call me back, instead had them call me.
When we asked to speak to Dr. Harte, Chris got on the phone and said, "This is as high up as you're going to get." He could not or would not explain anything.
I tried to explain how shocking it was to have this happen on the first visit to Dr. Harte. He said he was going to "get some facts" and call me back. He did not.
Two weeks later, I finally got a hold of Chris and he said they are not responsible for knowing what our benefits are, I had been rude, good luck and they had nothing more to say about it. - Carrie M.Chicago, IL313Mar 19, 2014Updated review
I love how Dr. Liesa took the time to make a notation on my review, but didn't answer a single question or ever contact me. Meanwhile her Office Manager hung up on me and I've filed a complaint with the state. If you go, pay as you go, don't get suckered in to a plan.

Only 2% of doctors are doing the cutting edge genetic and other testing that I routinely do in my office. This information is like having a crystal ball! I enjoyed working with you the short time that you were a part of my practice. I hope that you get the help that you need at a price you can afford. Know that you are welcome to come back if I can ever be of service. I wish you the best of health.
Liesa Harte, M.D.May 21, 2013Previous reviewI have been one of Dr. Liesa's patients for little over a month. She diagnosed me with a thyroid problem and a Gene issue that supposedly pre-disposes me to Alzheimers. She set me up with a bunch of supplements and two of her "plans". For the honor of our first visit I paid $400.00, for the honor of the blood work, my insurance paid thousands of dollars. On our second visit came the results and the regime. She sat with me for a half an hour, wrote up a long list of supplements and RX that I needed to take and I was on my way. Many of the things she wrote up were not in my two "plans". So I get to pay a grand total of $160.00 a month and then more for the supplements that were not included. I found this very disconcerting, but I was scared and I haven't felt good for a long time so I bought in. That was my mistake. Now with my "plan" I get to see Doctor Liesa each month. She told me to lets wait and see for three months on the regime and then she'd draw more blood. Oh also I'm supposed to give up Gluten. My issue isn't really with her diagnosis or her method. My issue is with her "plans" and her follow-up.
Because I wasn't set to see her for three months but I was paying for two visits per month, I made an appointment. I wanted to get my money's worth and check in. I also had some questions about the Gene issue she says that I have and one of the supplements clearly states don't take with HBP. I have HBP so I was concerned about it. The day of the visit came and I missed my appointment. I did not get a reminder, but I didn't miss it because of that. I missed it because my 20 month old daughter and husband both had fevers as well as Hand Foot and Mouth disease. Not fun for a Mommy with a sinus infection to deal with. Due to my family issues I missed the appointment, but I called the office to discuss it.
The office gal told me that they would charge me $100.00 for a missed appointment. Wait a minute, I have already paid for two appointments this month, you can't possibly charge me for a third. I told her not kindly that this was ridiculous and that I was already weary of the program and wanted to cancel. She told me that it would take 30 days to put that notice in so I'd be charged again.
At the end of the conversation we agreed that charging me additionally might be too much and she'd talk to Dr. Liesa to wave it and get back to me. It's been almost two weeks and I'm still waiting.
They have not charged my card but Dr. Liesa has also not gotten back to me. So I e-mailed them, an apology for losing my cool on the phone and all of my medical questions. That's been a week now too and I still haven't heard anything.
She may be a great Doctor, but I'll never know, I am going to find a more compassionate Doctor who doesn't run what I believe to be a convoluted program plan and who will follow up with her patients.
