What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of focused relaxation during which the
client becomes particularly responsive to suggestions. During
light hypnosis the brain is emitting alpha waves, much like
a state of daydreaming or being absorbed in an enjoyable,
creative activity. In deeper hypnosis, the brain is emitting
theta waves, similar to a state of meditation or when an athlete
is "in the zone."
Hypnosis can be used for many different issues and works best if you are willing and ready to make changes. It is particularly effective when dealing with and resolving inner conflict, e.g. "part of me wants to quit smoking but part of me really enjoys it."
When you start hypnosis, you will discover that all hypnosis
is really self-hypnosis, a skill where you learn to harness
your natural abilities to relax and focus. Like any skill,
regular practice will help you reap more benefits.
