Lymphatic drainage massage is a profound technique to help increase lymph flow. With an increase of lymph flow immune function is increased. Harmful substances are removed from the tissues and neutralized in the nodes. It has also been shown that an increase in lymph flow stimulates an increased production of lymphocytes- enhancing immune function.

Within us all there is a silent system working to keep us healthy- the lymph system. Without it our bodies would swell up like balloons, swamping our cells with stagnant fluid. The lymph system's impact is so far reaching that many don't even realize that minor aches and pains, low energy or susceptibility to colds and flu may be due to a sluggish lymph system and a compromised immune system.

The Procedure

The client usually lies unclothed and professionally draped on a massage table, The practitioner uses a variety of repetitive circular, straight and vibration strokes. The therapist follows the anatomy of the lymphatic system.
The hour procedure is both soothing and pain free, leaving the client refreshed, relaxed and energized.

The Importance

The movement performed by the therapist stretch  microfilaments just below the skin that controls the opening to initial lymphatic's. This allows interstitial fluid to enter the lymphatic system stimulating the lymph vessel to contract. LDM also reduces the body "Fight or Flight" response to stress and stimulates the body parasympathetic reaction. The "Fight or Flight" reaction causes the body to tense and produce hormones and chemicals for defense. This reaction depresses immune system while stressing many body systems.

Within the last decade, a new form of electronic instrument was found to assist and amplify the effects of manual lymph drainage, reducing the time and complexity of the therapy. Some therapists immediately noted that the therapy was 8 times faster with the device! This instrument is called the Lymphstar Pro®.
Lymph vessels can become clogged with protein deposits leading to sluggish flow (congestion) and impaired function. The causes of lymphatic congestion range from injuries and surgery, inactivity and poor diet, to emotional/ stress states, environmental toxins, hormone imbalance, and normal aging processes. When this state occurs the blockages cause a backup in the flow of lymphatic fluid, resulting in swelling or edema in the tissues and in various kinds of "symptoms." Consequently, toxic waste matter cannot effectively be released from the body, nor can the immune system function at optimum performance. The result is a wide range of dysfunction and disease. A therapeutic technique known as manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage was developed in Europe about 100 years ago. Through delicate massaging techniques, it was highly effective at reducing lymph-based disorders through the subsequent detoxification process.
